Beneath a ceiling of hot and humid skies, the Toronto Playgrounds 13U Red Selects were upended 25-1 by the York Riverdogs in a 2021 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 13U Select Championship Tournament elimination playoff game this morning at Dovercourt Park.
With their second playoff loss, the Toronto Playgrounds 13U Red Selects (1-2) are now officially eliminated from further playoff tournament play. (Each team participating in the EBA 13U Select playoff tourney is working under the double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from further contention once they have lost two elimination playoff games.)
The TP 13U Red Selects journey at the tourney began on Friday afternoon with a dramatic 12-10 elimination playoff game victory over the TP 13U Blue Selects at Dovercourt Park.
In a tooth and nail battle yesterday evening, the Toronto Playgrounds 13U Red gave Annette a run for their money before succumbing 17-9 to the A’s at Christie Pits.
Despite a 2-11 regular season record and a departure from the EBA playoffs, the TP 13U Red Selects nevertheless had a fun filled and enormously rewarding season of baseball during the compressed 2021 EBA Select campaign.
The TP Baseball Committee wishes to express their thanks to TP 13U Red Select Coaches Max Baranovskii; Daniel Miranda; Glen Mitchell and Savannah Ugo for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented 13U Red Selects through the highs and lows of the 2021 season.
And a special kudos goes out to TP 13U Red Select Manager Deb Singer for her dedication and hard work behind the scenes keeping the team organized and game ready during the 2021 campaign.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the 13U Red Select coaches, players, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond during the course of the 2021 season.
WAY TO GO, TP!
