FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS TAME THE WOLVERINES AT CHRISTIE PITS TO EARN THEIR FIRST EBA 9U SELECT LOOP VICTORY OF THE 2022 SEASON
Under an extremely warm ceiling of hazy Spring skies, the Toronto Playgrounds 9U Selects prevailed 21-3 over the Weston Wolverines in four scintillating innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 9U Select Loop action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 3.
In the top of the first, Weston jumped out to an early 1-0 lead.
Following a one out single and stolen base by Theodore (16), Julian stroked a clutch two out RBI hit that brought Theodore home with the opening run of the game.
In lickety-split fashion, Toronto Playgrounds responded with a vengeance in the bottom half of the first frame as they parlayed eight searing hits into a 7-1 lead.
After a leadoff double by Avi (22), Adam (11) connected for a one out single that put two ducklings on the pond. Ellis (44) followed with a RBI hit that advanced Adam to third base and brought Avi home with the tying run.
With runners at third and first, Julian (13) delivered a RBI single that moved Ellis to second and allowed Adam to come home with TP’s go ahead run.
With the wind in their sails, Elliot (72) hit into a fielder’s choice that erased Julian at second and brought Ellis home with a run.
After a single by Sydney (9) that put two aboard, Cole (23) crushed a clutch two out two RBI double that brought Elliot and Sydney home with a pair of runs.
The TP hit parade continued as Kaden (0) delivered a hot tamale RBI double that allowed Cole to hustle home with another run.
For the icing on the cake, Nicola (5) stroked a RBI single that brought Kaden home with the Baskin Robbins Choco Amore ice cream cake.
Weston threatened in the top of the second after Elijah (28), Kristian (17) and Damien (2) hit respective singles to load the bases.
Unfortunately, the Wolverines bats went cold as they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
TP added another three doubloons to their treasure trove in the bottom portion of the second to increase their upper hand to 10-1.
After a leadoff single by Cal (3), Adrian (4) and Avi delivered back to back two out singles to load the bases. Carson (27) followed with a grace under pressure two RBI single that advanced Avi to third base and allowed Cal and Adrian to shuffle home with a pair of runs.
With a runner on third, Adam stroked a RBI hit that brought Avi home with another TP run.
The Wolverines offence stirred to life in the top half of the third frame as they scored a pair to trim the gap to 10-3.
Following a leadoff single by Lawrence (20), Theodore delivered a one out RBI double that allowed Lawrence to motor home with a run.
Subsequently, with two outs and a runner on base, Julian stroked a clutch RBI single that brought Theodore home with another Weston run.
Putting the pedal to the metal, Toronto Playgrounds unleashed a take no prisoners seven hit fusillade in the bottom of the third frame as they answered back with a six spot to widen their plurality to 16-3.
Following back to back singles by Julian and Elliot to open the inning, Sydney followed suit with a RBI single to bring Julian home with a run.
With runners on second and first, Cole stroked a solid single that put three aboard. A Weston fielding error on the play would allow Sydney and Cole to advance to third and second respectively, and bring Elliot home with another TP run,
Going for the jugular, Kaden stepped into the batter’s box and delivered a two RBI single that cleared the bases and allowed Sydney and Cole to strut homeward with a pair of Gangnam Styled runs.
Following a fielder’s choice by Nicola (that erased Kaden at second base) and a single by Cal that put two mallards on the lake, Dominic (15) connected for a two RBI double that brought Nicola and Cal home with two additional TP runs.
In the top of the fourth, Weston threatened again after Elijah and Kristian hit respective singles that put two baserunners on the dance floor.
However, the Wolverines were unable to capitalize on the opportunities as their bats went cold.
Toronto Playgrounds tacked on five insurance runs in the bottom portion of the fourth as they widened their lead to 21-3,
After Avi and Carson led off the inning with respective singles that put two aboard, Ellis stroked a one out RBI single that allowed Avi to come home with a run.
With two runners on base, Julian connected for a RBI hit that brought Carson home with another TP run.
As the TP DJ in the bleacher seats continued to spin the hits (and nothing but the hits), Elliot caught the rhythm of the moment as he muscled a RBI single that allowed Ellis to hustle homeward with a run.
Following a single by Sydney that loaded the bases, Cole and Kaden capped off the proceedings with respective RBI hits that brought Julian and Elliot home with two more TP runs.
