TAKING NO PRISONERS, THE WHITE SOX PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE EBA 13U SELECT LOOP VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Under a warm canopy of opulent summer skies. the Martingrove White Sox defeated the Toronto Playgrounds 13U Blue Selects 24-5 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 13U Select Loop action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Taking care of business, Martingrove staked itself to an early 8-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.
After a leadoff walk by Julian I (6) and a single by Sam (10) that put two runners on base, Callum (9) stroked a RBI hit that brought Julian I. home with the opening run of the game.
With runners on third and second, Michael (2) delivered a two RBI single that allowed Sam and Callum to motor home with a pair of runs.
After stealing third base, Michael took advantage of a TP error on the play to hustle home with another White Sox run.
Following a single, Gabriele (30) utilized a stolen base and a TP error to advance to third base. Adrian (15) would reach base on a TP error that also allowed Gabriele to scoot home with a run.
After a walk John Michael (55) put two White Sox runners on the dance floor, Martin delivered a two RBI triple to bring Adrian and John Michael home with two more runs.
Following back to back walks by Simon (14) and James (46) that loaded the bases, Julian B. (27) drew a bases loaded RBI walk that allowed Martin to shimmy home with a run.
Toronto Playgrounds threatened in the bottom of the first after Charles (11) singled and Spencer (27) drew a walk that put two mallards on the lake.
However, Martingrove starter James (46) put a kibosh on the TP rally courtesy of a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.
Putting the pedal to the metal, the White Sox added another seven runs to their treasure trove in the top of the second frame to extend their upper hand to 15-0.
After back to back singles by Julian I. and Sam to lead off the inning, Callum delivered a two RBI double to bring them home with a pair of runs.
Following a walk by Michael that put two aboard, Adrian would reach base on a TP error with one out that also allowed Callum to come home with a run.
After a walk by John Michael loaded the bases, Martin, Simon, James and Julian would form a bases loaded RBI walk conga line procession that brought Michael, Adrian, John Michael and Martin home with four more White Sox runs.
In the bottom portion of the second, TP threatened again after a single by Ethan (4) and a walk by Simon (30) that put two runners on base.
With a dash of guile and a dollop of mustard, Martingrove reliever Adrian chalked up a groundout and two strikeouts in the second to keep TP off the scoring ledger.
The White Sox added a dramatic three spot in the top of the third to stretch their plurality to 18-0.
Following back to back walks by Julian I. and Sam to begin the inning, Callum stepped into the batter’s box and scorched a Wooly Mammoth three run inside the park home run shot into the deep sea portion of right field.
Subsequently, with one out and Martingrove threatening again, TP 13U Blue reliever Will K. (12) entered the fray to tally strikeout and a fly out that extinguished the White Sox insurgency.
Will K. was helped out immeasurably during the inning by sweet defensive gem from his friends. With two outs and the bases loaded, Simon slashed a fly ball to centre field. As the ball began descending like a dying quail, TP centre fielder Charles swooped in like a gazelle to make a spectacular shoestring catch to ring up the third out.
Refusing to go quietly into the night, Toronto Playgrounds broke the goose egg in the bottom of the third when they tallied a two spot that trimmed the margin to 18-2.
After a one out single by Andrew (17), Charles reached base on a hit by pitch that put two swans on the lake. After Spencer (27) reached base on a dropped third strike, a White Sox error on the play would allow Andrew and Charles to motor homeward with a pair of TP runs.
Nonplussed, Martingrove reliever Julian B. chalked up a strikeout and a pair of groundouts in the third inning to pacify the TP rebellion.
Martingrove would tack on six insurance runs in the top of the fourth to widen their advantage to 24-2.
After a leadoff double by James and a single by Julian B. that put two runners aboard, Julian I. stroked a RBI hit that brought James home with a run.
Following a single by Sam that loaded the bases, Callum drew a bases loaded RBI walk that allowed Julian B. to shuffle home with a run.
With the bases juiced to the gills, Michael mashed a two RBI single off the left field fence that brought Julian I. and Sam home with two additional White Sox runs.
After Gabriele hit a single that reloaded the bases, Adrian delivered a solid RBI hit that allowed Callum to score.
With one out and the bases stuffed more than a can of StarKist tuna, Martin stroked a RBI single that brought Michael home to crow.
Undaunted by a twenty-two run deficit, Toronto Playgrounds donned their rally caps in the bottom half of the fourth in one last stand to overtake the White Sox.
After Simon reached base on a catcher’s interference call with two outs, Nathan H. (18) and Gabe (14) garnered back to back walks to load the bases. Following a hard at bat, Andrew delivered a clutch bases clearing three RBI double that brought Simon, Nathan H. and Gabe home and trim the shortfall to nineteen.
Following two quick strikeouts to open the inning, Martingrove closer Martin regained his Mojo Jojo as he tallied a groundout to subdue the TP rally bid and seal the deal on the White Sox commanding victory.
