Beneath a checkered blanket of hot and hazy skies, Leaside prevailed 10-5 over the Toronto Playgrounds 9U Selects in a semi-final elimination game this morning on Rickard West Field at the 2022 Clarington Classic 9U Select Tournament.

With the loss, TP 9U (2-2) is officially knocked out of the tournament.

Despite falling short of their ultimate goal, it goes without saying that all the players, coaches, parents and family members in attendance had an extremely fun and rewarding experience at the tournament this weekend in Clarington.

Energized from a razor thin 17-16 loss to the Bloordale Gold during EBA 9U Select Loop play on Tuesday, the TP 9U Selects had the wind in their sails as they focused their attention on the Clarington tourney.

In their opening round robin tournament game on Friday afternoon, the TP 9U Selects defeated the Whitby Canadians 10-7 in a tough as nails battle to earn their first victory.

After a good night’s rest, TP edged the Clarington Orioles 15-14 on Saturday morning to chalk up their second round robin victory at the tourney.

Despite a 16-6 loss to the Thornhill Reds 1 on Saturday afternoon, the TP 9U Selects 2-1 round robin record punched them a ticket into the Clarington Classic Tournament’s semi-final playoff elimination round versus Leaside.

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) wishes to commend all the 9U Select coaches, players, parents and family members for representing the core values of TPBA program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the weekend Clarington Classic Tournament.
