Under a warm ceiling of pristine summer skies, the York Riverdogs prevailed 5-0 over the Toronto Playgrounds 18U Selects in a seven inning final round game this afternoon at Smythe Park to win the 2022 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 18U Select Championship Tournament Game.
Despite falling short of their goal, the TP 18U Selects nevertheless earned a well deserved berth in the 2022 Baseball Ontario 18U Select Provincial Championship Playoffs in Brampton with their finalist showing at the EBA 18U Tournament.
Toronto Playgrounds journey at the tourney began on Friday night with a 6-1 loss to the Martingrove White Sox in their first round game at Smythe Park.
On Saturday evening, TP 18U rebounded with a convincing 13-2 win over the Bloordale Bombers in their second round game at Millwood Park to earn their first victory at the EBA tourney,
Taking care of business in their third round game, Toronto Playgrounds defeated Martingrove 19-3 this morning at Smythe Park to advance into the championship round versus York.
In a fun and rewarding season, the TP 18U Selects finished atop the 2022 EBA 18U Select Standings with a solid 9-3 regular season record.
Taking a break from the EBA circuit, TP 18U also participated in two weekend tournaments during the 2022 season. TP 18U had a fun and enriching experience at the Brampton Tournament in June.
Toronto Playgrounds 18U also reached the final round of the Vaughan Vikings 18U Select Tournament in July. With a 4-2 overall record that weekend, TP 18U earned a finalist placement after advancing to the championship round.
On behalf of our entire baseball community, the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) wishes to extend their congratulations to Head Coach Jundino Ugo; Assistant Coaches Paul Kelly and Gord McCallum; Team Manager Joe Fong; and the players of the TP 18U Select Team for their hard work and dedication in reaching the championship round at the 2022 EBA 18U Select Tournament.
The TPBA also wishes to commend all the 18U Select coaches, players, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the EBA tourney and during the course of the 2022 season.
