Beneath a yo ho ho canopy of tranquil September skies, the Pirates prevailed 7-5 over the Giants in a six inning final game tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2 to win the 2022 Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) House League Tournament 13U Peewee Division Championship Game.

In the top half of the first, the freebooting Pirates staked themselves to an early 3-0 lead.

Pirates leadoff batter Stanley (7) delivers a single in the top of first inning. In two at bats, Stanley went 1 for 1 at the dish [single, walk] to spark the Buccaneers attack with two key runs.

Following a leadoff hit by Stanley (7), Oliver (12) powered a fire in the hole RBI triple that brought Stanley home with the opening run of the proceedings.

With man-o-war resolve. Oliver threw caution to the wind as he took advantage of a Giants defensive lapse to steal home and score a run.

After garnering a one out walk, Julian (2) revved up the sea legs and swiped his way around Cape Horn to get into scoring position at third base. Jude followed with a RBI groundout that allowed Julian to hustle home with a another Buccaneers run.

Taking no prisoners, Pirates starter Julian reeled off three consecutive strikeouts in the bottom of the first to keep the landlubbin’ Giants off the scoring ledger.

With 1-2-3 resolve, Giants reliever Milo (4) mowed down the Pirates with three lickety-split strikeouts in the top of the second. In a stellar two inning effort, Milo surrendered no runs while striking out six Buccaneers.

Not to be outdone, Giants reliever Milo (4) returned the favour in the top of the second as he made the Pirates walk the plank by ringing up three strikeouts to retire the gnarly Buccaneers in 1-2-3 fashion to keep them off the scoreboard and mired in the Captain’s Mess,

The Giants threatened in the bottom portion of the third. After reaching base on a hit by pitch, Nathan (10) stole his way around the horn to third base.

Hanging the jib, Pirates reliever Dax (14) tallied three cackle fruit groundouts to hornswaggle the Giants in the third frame.

With a little help from his Pirates reliever Dax (14) chalked up three groundouts to keep the Giants off the scoring ledger in the top of the second frame.

Dax received three peg leg gems from his defence (ARR!… hearties) during the inning. Bucs second baseman Jude (13) hooked up with first baseman Jack(6) on a pair of old salt 4-3 plays that stymied the potent Giants attack. For the pièce de résistance, Pirates shortstop Oliver vacuumed up a sharp cheddar cheese grounder off the bat of Noah (3) and made a lightning throw across the diamond to Jack and tally a nice 6-3 putout for the third out.

With no pussyfooting, Giants reliever Yougi (5) retired the Pirates with 1-2-3 efficiency in the top of the third to keep the Bucs off the scoresheet and in the brig.

Wily Giants reliever Yougi (5) kept the Pirates off the scoreboard in the top of the third with a lineout, groundout and strikeout.

A tip of the cap to Giants first baseman Treyvon (6) for catching a scorching hot tamale line drive off the bat of Jacob (8) for the first out un the inning.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, the Giants offence stirred to life in the bottom of the third as they scored a run to trim the margin to 3-1.

After drawing a one out walk, Vincenzo (13) flexed his Grand Theft acumen in order to advance to third base with a pair of derring-do steals. Max (2) followed with a RBI groundout that allowed Vincenzo to motor home with the Giants first run of the game.

Kudos to Bucs right fielder Jude for hooking up with first baseman Dax on a pretty 9-3 defensive play for the first out.

Seizing control of the mizzenmast, the Pirates plundered the Giants for four gold doubloons in the top half of the fourth to extend their upper hand to 7-1.

Following a one out walk by Stanley, Oliver stepped up to the dish and crunched a cat o’ nine tails two run inside the park home run cannon blast for the Buccaneers.

Subsequently, with one out and a runner on third, Dante would come home to roost after Peter (12) was retired at first base on a dropped third strike.

Cool as a cucumber, Giants reliever Milo rang up three strikeouts to terminate the Buccaneers insurrection in the sixth inning.

With Jolly Roger will power, Buccaneers reliever Oliver sandwiched two strikeouts around a groundout in the bottom of the sixth to seal the Pirates championship victory.

Upon the final out of the game, the Pirates converge to celebrate their 2022 TPBA House League Tournament 13U Peewee Division Championship victory at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
