FAMILY AND FRIENDS GATHERED TOGETHER AT CHRISTIE PITS FOR A MEMORIAL GAME IN HONOUR OF BELOVED FORMER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS BASEBALL PRESIDENT AND VOLUNTEER TED SHARP
Befitting his love of the game, family and friends gathered together this afternoon at Christie Pits Diamond 2 for a Memorial Game in honour of former Toronto Playgrounds Baseball President and Volunteer Ted Sharp.
In his memory, the Ted Sharp Community Baseball Bursary has been created by Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) and the Sharp family to honour the late Ted Sharp.
Ted was a long-time coach, umpire, Board member, and parent with TPBA and its predecessor organizations, the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee and the Lizzies Baseball Committee. He was absolutely committed to the concept of house league baseball. Ted coached kids from 5 to 18 at various stages of their development. And he liked nothing better than to see someone get their first hit, catch their first fly ball, pitch their first strikeout, or correctly call the infield fly rule in their first umpiring assignment.
The bursary has been established to provide tuition assistance to a graduating participant in the baseball program who is pursuing post secondary education. The successful recipient will have demonstrated the attributes of fair play, skills development, and volunteer commitment that characterized the qualities so evident in Ted’s life.
