TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS, NITTY GRITTY TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PREVAIL OVER THE PLUCKY WHITE SOX IN AN ETOBICOKE BASEBALL ASSOCIATION 11U MOSQUITO SELECT LOOP CONTEST AT CHRISTIE PITS
Under a genteel ceiling of warm and sunny skies, the Toronto Playgrounds 11U Red defeated the Martingrove 11U White 16-7 in a 4 ½ inning Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 11U Select game tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
With true grit, TP 11U Red starter Rudy (10) retired the Martingrove 11U White batting order in 1-2-3 fashion in the top half of the first inning with a groundout and two strikeouts that kept the White Sox offense off the scoresheet and hanging wet on the clothes line.
Rudy received a little defensive gem from his friends during the first at bat of the game. As Martingrove leadoff batter Noah (6) hustled down the line after stroking a slow Jelly Roll Morton roller between third and second base, TP 11U Red shortstop Kaden (0) swooped in on the ball like a Regal Ferruginous Hawk and made a thunderous toss across the diamond to TP first baseman Cordell (23), who reeled in the Lightnin’ Hopkins throw that erased Noah on a chitty chitty bang bang 6-3 play for the the first out in the portion of the first frame.
With authority, TP 11U Red staked itself to early 4-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning.
After a leadoff walk by Kaden, Arlo (13) stroked a single that advanced Kaden to third base.
With TP Red runners on third and first, Martingrove uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Arlo to move over to second base and brought Kaden home with the first run of the proceedings.
Following Arlo’s advancement to third base on a wild pitch, Paul muscled a RBI single that allowed Arlo to come home with a TP 11U Red run.
After a searing single by Cordell that advanced Paul to second base, the White Sox defense committed an error that allowed Cordell to move over to third and brought Paul home with another TP run.
Following a theft of third base, Cordell capped off TP 11U Red’s big first frame with a ballsy steal of home.
In a spirited foray on the hill, Martingrove 11U White starter Anthony (1) faced four TP 11U Red batters in the first inning
Not taking things lying down, Marttingrove 11U White answered back with a four spot in the top of the second frame to deadlock the affair at 4-4.
After Anthony reached base on a hit by pitch to open the inning, Ryan (77) and Zachary (14) garnered respective walks to load the bases.
With one out, Toronto Playgrounds uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Anthony to blaze home from third base with the White Sox’s first run of the game.
Following a walk Vikram (68) that reloaded the bases, Adrian (11) drew a bases loaded RBI walk which brought Ryan home with a Martingrove run.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Lucas (4) garnered a bases loaded RBI walks that allowed Zachary to shimmy home with a White Sox run that closed the gap to one.
And with the bases still packed tighter than a can of premium sardines, Leo (7) earned a RBI the hard way by taking one for the team when he was hit by pitch, forcing Vikram to come homeward with Martingrove’s game tying run.
In a sprightly effort, TP 11U Red starter Rudy tallied two strikeouts against the White Sox in the second frame.
Not to be outdone, TP 11U Red replied in lickety-split fashion in the bottom of the second inning when they parlayed four runs to take the upper hand 8-4.
After a leadoff walk by Eli O (44) and a single by Emmett (4), Whit (6) drew a one out walk to load the bases. Benji (15) followed with a fielder’s choice that moved Emmett to third, erased Whit at second, and brought Eli O home with a TP’s go ahead run.
With two out and runners on the corners, Jack (11) connected for a clutch RBI single that moved Benji to second base and allowed Emmett to score.
Craving more, more, more, Rudy stepped up to the plate and delivered a grace under pressure two RBI triple that brought Benji and Jack home with two more TP 11U Red runs.
In a valiant outing, Martingrove 11U White starter Anthony tallied a pair of groundouts in the second frame while facing seven TP 11U Red batters.
Refusing to go quietly into the night, Martingrove 11U White punched back with three in the top of the third inning to close the margin to 8-7.
After garnering a one out walk, Julia (23) rattled the TP 11U Red defense with two daring steals that advanced her into scoring position at third base.
With carpe diem resolve, Julia took advantage of a TP error to motor home with a derring-do White Sox run.
Exercising patience at the dish, Matthew (26), Anthony and Ryan drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Nicolas (00) followed with a two RBI double that moved to third and brought Matthew and Anthony home with a pair of White Sox runs that trimmed the shortfall to one.
Subsequently, Vikram garnered a two out walk that reloaded the bases and kept the heat on the TP defense.
Shaken, but not not stirred, TP 11U Red reliever Jack chalked up a 1-3 groundout that put a kibosh on the Martingrove insurgency in the third frame.
Putting the pedal to the metal, Toronto Playgrounds added four gold doubloons to their treasure trove in the bottom of the third inning to extend their plurality to 12-7.
After a leadoff single by Milo (24), Eli D (8) drew a walk that put two TP runners on the dancefloor. Kaden followed with a RBI single that moved Eli D to second base and brought Milo home with a TP 11U Red run.
Following a single by Arlo that loaded the bases, Paul delivered a two RBI double that advanced Arlo to third, and allowed Eli D and Kaden to come home with a apir of TP runs.
Cordell followed with a fielder’s choice that erased Paul at third base, and brought Arlo to motor home with another TP 11U Red run.

Toronto Playgrounds tacked on four insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure their lead at 16-7.
After a leadoff hit by Eli O, Carson (27) drew a walk that put two ducks on the pond. Emmett followed with a RBI single that advanced Carson to third base and allowed Eli O to come home with a TP 11U Red run.
With runners on third and first, Whit stroked a RBI single that moved Emmett over to second and brought Carson home with a TP run.
Following a single by Benji, the White Sox defense committed an error that allowed Whit to motor over to third and Emmett to score another TP 11U Red run.
After Jack garnered a walk to load the bases, Rudy hit into a groundout that brought Whit home with a TP run.
In a plucky outing, Martingrove 11U White reliever Noah notched a groundout in the fourth frame while facing seven TP 11U Red batters.
