IN A SCRAPPY AFFAIR, THE GIANTS PREVAIL OVER THE ROCKIES FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP PRIZE AT CHRISTIE PITS

Beneath a twilight blanket of warm September skies, the Giants prevailed 10-6 over the Rockies in a six inning battle tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2 to win the 2024 Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) 13U Peewee Division House League Tournament Championship Game.
In the top half of the first inning, the Giants jumped out to an early 2-0 lead,
After a one out walk, Theo (10) turned on the afterburners and rattled the Rockies defense with a pair of quicksilver steals that advanced him into optimal scoring position at third base.


Following a walk by Wilt (2), Theo took advantage of a Rockies wild pitch to blaze home and score the opening run of the proceedings. Wilt would move over to third base on the faux pas.
After Oliver (14) garnered a walk that put runners at third and first, the Giants executed a double steal that moved Oliver to second and allowed Wilt to score another run for the Giants.


Nonplussed, Rockies starter Gabriel (12) chalked up a pop out, a pickoff and a strikeout to quell the Giants uprising in the top of the first frame.
Gathering no moss, the Rockies quickly answered back with a pair in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game 2-2.
After Ellis (1) was injured on a hit by pitch with one out, Cole (4) took his place on the base paths.
Throwing caution to the wind, Cole swiped his way around the horn to third base with aplomb.



Following a walk by Gabriel (12) that put two Rockies on the dancefloor, Calvin (10) hit into a 6-3 groundout that advanced Gabriel to third and brought Cole home with the Rockies first run of the game.
With a runner on third base, Wolfe (16) delivered a clutch two out RBI single that brought Gabriel home with the Rockies game tying run.


With pluck, Giants starter Oliver sandwiched a pair of strikeouts between a groundout to curtail the Rockies dissent in the bottom of the first frame.
With 1-2-3 efficiency, Rockies reliever Calvin tallied two groundouts and a strikeout to keep the Giants off the scoring ledger in the top of the second inning.

The Rockies threatened in the bottom half of the second inning following a one out single by Bennett (13).

With the game deadlocked 2-2, Bennett made the bold as brass decision to steal second base.
As Bennett charged towards his goal, Giants catcher Wilt (2) made a thunderous throw to shortstop Jackson (18), who slapped an emphatic tag on Bennett’s left hand for the scintillating 2-6 putout.


Undeterred, Fiona (11) stroked a two out single into right field to keep the heat on the Giants.
With heart, Giants reliever Rami (7) racked up two strikeouts to end the Rockies mutiny in the bottom of the second frame.

Taking the bull by the horns, the Giants tallied a four spot in the top of the third inning to take a 6-2 advantage.
After a leadoff walk by Finley (17), Theo garnered a walk that put two Giants on the discotheque floor.
With runners on third and second, Wilt delivered a one out RBI single that moved Theo to third base and allowed Finley to score the Giants go ahead run.


Following a walk by Oliver that loaded the bases, Theo made like a scrupulous bandido and brazenly stole home with savoir faire swagger to score a carpetbagger run for the Giants.
With runners at third and first, the Rockies were called for a balk that advanced Oliver to second base and brought Wilt home with a Giants run.
After a pair of walks by Max (4) and Rami that reloaded the bases, Leo (8) garnered a two out bases loaded walk that allowed Oliver to shuffle homeward with another Giants run.

In a gallant effort, Rockies reliever Julian (2) tallied a pop out and a strikeout versus the Giants in the top of the third frame.
Licking their wounds, the Rockies refused to concede an inch as they answered back with a run in the bottom portion of the third inning to trail 6-3.
With one out, Ellis reached base on Sneaky Dee bunt single.
Subsequently, with two outs and a runner on third, Calvin delivered a grace under pressure RBI single that brought Ellis home with a Rockies run.



Unfazed, Giants reliever Theo chalked up a pair of groundouts and a lineout to cut short the Rockies rally bid in the bottom of the third frame.
Putting the pedal to the metal, the Giants added three Bitcoins to their Cayman Islands bank account in the top of the fourth inning to extend their upper hand to 9-3.
Following a leadoff walk and stolen base by Finley, Jackson stroked a RBI single that allowed Finley to motor home with a run for the Giants.


After Jackson swiped a pair of bases to advance over to third base, Theo garnered a walk that put two ducks on the pond.
With runners on third and first, the Rockies uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Theo to move over to second base and Jackson to zoom home with a Giants run.


Following a deft theft of third by Theo, Wilt hit into a 4-3 groundout that brought Theo home with another run for the Giants.
For good measure, Oliver stroked a two out single to keep the pressure on the Rockies.


Shaken, but not stirred, Rockies reliever Wolfe chalked up two groundouts and a strikeout to extinguish the Giants coup d’état in the top of the fourth frame.
Refusing to go quietly into the night, the Rockies replied with a pair in the bottom of the fourth inning to shave the shortfall to 9-5.
After a leadoff walk by Julian, Izidor (13) hit a single that put two Rockies on base.



Following a theft of third by Julian, Kenzo (7) stroked a 4-3 groundout that advanced Izidor to second base and brought Julian home with a Rockies run.
After a one out groundout by Bennett that moved Izidor to third, Fiona delivered a clutch two out RBI single that allowed Izidor to score another Rockies run that shrunk the deficit to three.


With gumption, Giants reliever Jackson dialed up two groundouts and a strikeout to terminate the Rockies revolt in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Cool as a supremo cucumber, Rockies reliever Ellis chalked up a groundout, strikeout and pop out to retire the Giants in 1-2-3 fashion to keep them off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning.
Vowing no surrender, the Rockies gamely scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap to 9-6.
Following a leadoff walk by Ellis, Calvin delivered a one out RBI single that allowed Ellis to score a run for the Rockies.

Unperturbed, Giants reliever Wilt tallied a pop out, strikeout and a groundout to put a kibosh the Rockies rally bid in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Taking care of business, the Giants tacked on an insurance run in the top half of the sixth inning to secure their lead at 10-6.
After stroking a one out single, Wilt turned on the afterburners and stole second base.


With opportunity knocking, Max delivered a clutch two out RBI single that brought Wilt home with a Giants run.
With perseverance, Rockies reliever Ellis tallied a a pair of pop outs and a groundout to end the Giants putsch in the top of the sixth frame.

Donning their rally caps, the Rockies came up for their potential final at bats in the bottom of the sixth inning determined to change their circumstance in the time continuum.
With no inclination to gallivant around the mulberry bush, Giants reliever Wilt rang up a 1-3 pickoff and two strikeouts to bring the curtain down on the Rockies last gasp rally bid and seal the deal on the Giants championship victory.
