Beneath a ceiling of warm summer skies, the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals 14-3 in four innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is a Dodgers account of the proceedings:

  • In the top of the first, Wahid (9) started off what would be a great night at the plate with a hit and stolen base. Cooper (7) followed up with a hit and stolen base of his own. Then Joseph (10) stepped up and hit a ball to the right side of the diamond, sacrificing himself for the RBI fielders choice. Lucas (2) followed with an RBI single of his own, and promptly stole second base.  Aaron (5) walked and stole a base, but the Dodgers could do no more damage as they staked themselves to an early 2-0 lead.

  • With Dodgers starter Cooper (7) on the mound in the bottom of the first, he was able to pick up two strike outs and Aaron snagged a liner up the first baseline for the third out. However, the Cards tied it up 2-2.

  • Mei (6) started off the Dodgers top half of the second with a walk and two steals. Rachel (8) followed with a walk and a steal of her own. After Jeremy (4) walked and stole second base, and Justin (3) [a call up from the Mosquito Division Orioles] walked and picked up and RBI. Then Wahid then had an RBI single, followed by an RBI walk by Cooper. Subsequently, Joseph walked and Lucas brought home the fourth run with a RBI single.

  • In the bottom of the second, Dodgers reliever Mei (6) entered the fray and pitched a gem of an inning. With no outs, Mei coolly snagged a hard hit ball up the middle and combined with first baseman Justin to make the force out at first. Mei proceeded to strike out two more Cardinals batters to finish off a shutout inning.

  • Aaron led off the top of the third with a walk and two steals. After taking one for the team with a hit by pitch, Elliott (13) stole second right away. Leo (1) followed and  smashed a 2 RBI single up the middle. After Leo swiped a pair of bags, Mei mashed a solid RBI single to right field. After garnering a walk, Rachel put on her running shoes (along with Mei), who each stole themselves around the bases to score a run, and finish up the inning.

  • In the  bottom of the third, Dodgers reliever Lucas (2) eased his way through a tough inning, struggling at time to find the zone, but in the end managed to hold the Dodgers off the board and pick up a hat trick of K’s to boot.

  • Pasha (7) [a Mosquito call up from the A’s) earned a walk and two steals to start the Dodgers off in the top of the fourth. Then Jeremy walked and stole a few bases, eventually scoring the pitch right after Pasha did from third.  Subsequently, Justin drew a walk and eventually stole himself around to score after Wahid and Joseph walked.

  • Dodgers pitcher Aaron closed it out in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of K’s and a calm 1-3 put out at first to bring the curtain down on their 14-3 victory over the Cardinals.
