Peewee Tuesdays: Lizzies Victorious in Nailbiter

LIZZIES HANG ON FOR A 7-6 VICTORY OVER THE RED SOX

Jacob (4) of the Lizzies strikes out three Red Sox and allowed no runs in the top of the third inning.

Naiemul (14) of the Lizzies strikes out three and allows only one run in the top of the first inning.

The Lizzies hung on for dear life in the top of the fourth (and final) inning to eke out a 7-6 victory over the Red Sox at Diamond # 2 today.

Up 7-4, the Lizzies entered the final inning with a three run lead. However, the Red Sox did not surrender and battled hard against Lizzies closer Salim (5).

Avery (5) of the Red Sox doubled to lead off the fourth inning. His double sparked the Red Sox batters into collective action as they worked the pitch counts in their favour to load the bases with no outs. Eventually, the Beantowners were able to punch across two runs to make it a one run game.

With the Lizzies hanging on to a 7-6 lead and with the bases loaded, Salim dug into his reserves to strike out three Red Sox batters to seal the deal.

Overall, the game between these two traditional Peewee Division rivals was well played by both squads as the lead seesawed back and forth for several innings.

Kudos to Naiemul (14) of the Lizzies who pitched a strong first inning striking out three and allowing only one run; Timothy (1) of the Red Sox who struck out two and pitched himself out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning; and Jacob (4) of the Lizzies who pitched a stellar third inning by striking out three Red Sox and allowing no runs. His effort cooled the hot Red Sox offense and allowed the Lizzies to come back in the bottom of the third with four runs to make the score 7-4. In the end, the Lizzies needed every run they earned to hang on.
