TP SELECT: Battlin’ Peewee Selects Take 1 of 3 at GTA Tournament

A VERY SPIRITED TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS EFFORT DOES US PROUD

Naiemul (7) pitched a scorless one and one-third innings in the third game of the tournament against East Toronto while also hitting a big triple to ignite a eight run TP rally in the final inning.

Our Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Select Team did us proud this weekend at the GTA Tournament by battling and playing hard to the end in each of the three games that they were scheduled in.

Although TP won only one of the three games in the tourney, the effort and heart that the Peewee Selects exhibited between the lines is not visible in the final ledger of  wins and losses.

Our TP Cub Reporter Michael “Scoop” Godel was there to file the following game dispatches:

  • The Peewee Selects played West Hill on Friday evening in their first game of the tournament. Despite being down 4-0 and 7-2 in the early going, Toronto Playgrounds battled back from these deficits to trail 7-5. Eventually, in the last inning, West Hill pulled away for a 13-5 victory.
  • On Saturday morning, TP was down 2-0 to Georgetown after two innings. However, Anthony (14) pitched three scoreless innings in a superb performance to allow the Peewee Selects to rally for the 3-2 win in the last four innings. A walk off hit by Justin (20) delivered the winning run.
  • In the third game of the tournament, Toronto Playgrounds spotted East Toronto an early eleven run lead. East Toronto was up 14-4 before the Peewee Selects rallied for eight runs in the final inning to fall short 14-12. Naiemul (7) hit a clutch triple to spark the TP rally while also holding East Toronto to no runs in the last 1 1/3 innings of  the game in a superlative pitching effort.
