Like the summer wind, the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Select team took care of business on the diamond and breezed to an 8-5 victory over Bloordale in five innings this evening at Millwood Park to win their eighth game of the EBA Select season.

Once again, the Peewee Selects were blessed with contributions from each player as everyone coalesced as a unit on the field of play.

The turning point of the game occurred in the top of the second inning for the Peewee Selects. With two outs and Bloordale ahead 3-1, Eamon (31) delivered a CLUTCH hit. This was followed by hits from Victor (23) and Harry (9), which allowed TP to tie the game.

“At that juncture, the momentum shifted back to Toronto Playgrounds”, said TP Peewee Select Head Coach Rob Ball, “and we never looked back in the mirror as we cruised to a very relaxed victory.”

With grace under pressure, the TP pitching brigade displayed its workmanlike professionalism once again as they had another solid outing. Simon (5), Luke (1), David (13) , Keegan (44) and John (33) combined to limit the potent Bloordale offense to five runs during the proceedings.

The Game MVP for the Peewee Selects was Eamon (31), who not only delivered a couple of BIG HITS when needed, but also made three great defensive plays in the field.

At a postgame media scrum, Peewee Select Head Coach Rob Ball expressed a measure of deep satisfaction with his team’s effort against Bloordale.

“Even with four of our big hitters away, the boys pulled off another easy victory, and look good going into the Vaughan tournament.”

The Peewee Selects (8-1) take a detour from the EBA circuit to play in the Vaughan Tournament this weekend (July 6-8). Toronto Playgrounds resumes EBA Select play on Wednesday, July 11 when they host York at Christie Pits Diamond 2 at 8 p.m.
