Beneath warm summer skies at Christie Pits Diamond 2 this evening, the Giants prevailed 8-5 over the Cubs in a thrilling four inning nitty gritty Mosquito Division showdown.

With the game tied 4-4 after three innings, the mighty Giants exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth to surge ahead, and held back the tenacious Cubs in the bottom of the inning for the victory.

A composed Cubs starting pitcher Angus (1) cooly kept the potent Giants lineup off the scoresheet in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the first, the Cubs scored a run to take the lead. However, Giants starter John (12) pitched a solid inning to keep the Cubs offense from increasing their lead.

Christian (4) of the Giants delivered a clutch bases loaded clearing triple in the second. Christian also had two singles and 3 RBI’s.

Taking tiger mountain by strategy, the Giants answered back with four runs in the top of the second to take the lead. Cormac (6) singled to lead off the inning. The Giants drew two walks to load the bases. At this juncture, Christian (4) delivered a clutch 3 RBI bases clearing double to put the Giants ahead 3-1.

A rattled Cubs bullpen proceeded to issue two walks to the Giants to reload the bases. John (12) hit a RBI single that brought Christian home with the final run of the inning.

Trailing 4-1, the pesky Cubs doggedly scored three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Keying the Cubbies offense was a 2 RBI triple by Solomon (4).

The third inning was a scoreless affair for both squads as some superb pitching came to the forefront. Cubs pitcher Angus spun his wily magic once more in the top of the third, as he held the Giants off the scoreboard with three strikeouts. Likewise, Giants reliever Maxwell (7) was stellar in the bottom half of the inning, as he mowed down the Cubs in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts on ONLY ten pitches.

In the top of the fourth, the Giants took advantage of five walks to score four, and blaze into the lead 8-4. Keying the Giants was a double by Cormac.

With their backs to the cave, the Cubs scored one unearned run on a leadoff hit in the bottom of the fourth to trim the deficit to three. However, Giants pitcher Maxwell proceeded to strikeout the next three Cubs to seal the deal and pick up the win.
