MOSQUITO > Cubs Claw By The Cardinals 7-5

IN A SHORT, BUT FUN AFFAIR, THE CUBBIES EKE OUT A VICTORY OVER THE CARDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Top to bottom: Cubs starter Daniel (13) pitched a workmanlike inning against the Cardinals in allowing three runs while striking out two; Cubs reliever Alden (9) allowed only two runs in the second while mowing down two Cardinals.

Beneath warm and sunny skies this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3, the Cubs eked out a 7-5 victory over the Cardinals in an abbreviated two inning Mosquito Division affair.

Here are the highlights:

  • The dog days of summer continue to wreak havoc with the team rosters in our Mosquito Division. With the Cubs only having four players on hand tonight, the Cardinals generously loaned them the use of two players so a game could be played.
  • The Cards scored three in the top of the first to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Cubs growled back with four in the bottom of the first to take the lead 4-3.
  • In the top of the second, the Cardinals punched across a pair to retake the lead 5-4.
  • With their paws in the Cards honey jar, the Cubbies scored three in the bottom of the second to jump back in front 7-5.
  • The Cubs received some good pitching from Daniel (13) [first inning, two strikeouts] and Alden (9) [second inning, two strikeouts).
  • Unfortunately, due to the late start of the game resulting from depleted team rosters, only two innings of baseball could be played.
