MOSQUITO > Cubs Edge Reds 5-4

IN A NAILBITER, THE CUBBIES CLAW BY THE BIG RED MACHINE TO WIN A QUARTER-FINAL GAME AT CHRISTIE PITS THAT PROPELS THEM TO A MOSQUITO DIVISION SEMI-FINAL SKIRMISH AGAINST THE DODGERS

With the proceedings tied 4-4, Julia (3) came home in the bottom of the fourth to score the Cubs winning run over the Reds in their Mosquito Division Quarter-Final game at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Below warm and humid skies this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3, the Cubs edged the Reds 5-4 in a thrilling 4 ½ inning Mosquito Division Quarter-Final encounter.

Beneficiaries of a hard fought victory, the Cubs advance to a Mosquito Division Semi-Final showdown against the second seeded Dodgers at Christie Pits Diamond 3 on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:45 p.m.

With the score tied 4-4, Julia (3)  reached base with a double in the bottom of the fourth and came around to score the Cubbies go ahead (and winning) run.

Protecting a slender one run lead and with the Reds potential tying run standing only sixty-five feet away at third, Cubs closer Alden (9) icily dashed the Big Red Machine’s comeback hopes with three consecutive strikeouts to seal the deal.

Here are some additional highlights:

  • The Reds jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • In the bottom of the first, the Cubs answered with three to take a 3-1 lead. Adi (14), Sam (8) and Aiden (10) came home to roost.
  • The Cubs scored a run in the bottom of the second to widen their advantage to 4-1. After a leadoff walk, Joseph (12) eventually came home to score.
  • The Reds offense exploded for three in the top of the fourth to tie the proceedings 4-4. After a leadoff double and stolen base by Tillie (13), Ben (4) delivered her home with a one out RBI single. Later, with the bases loaded, Sebastian (9) singled to bring home Ben. William (5) followed with a RBI walk to score Nicholas (3).

The TP Baseball Committee wishes to commend Lizzies coaches John Rowe and Bob Garden and all the Reds players on a great season.
