COACHES MEETINGS ON APRIL 23 & 24 AT THE BOB ABATE COMMUNITY CENTRE; COACHES CLINIC SESSIONS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 28 AND MAY 1The TP Baseball Committee has scheduled a series of meetings for our volunteer House League Coaches to help everyone prepare for the beginning of our 2014 season.
In addition, there is an opportunity for our volunteer house league coaches to participate in some on-field coach training featuring drills and ideas led by several of our experienced coaches who have attended the Toronto Blue Jays Coaches Clinic at the Rogers Centre back in January.
The coaches meetings will be held at the Bob Abate Community and Recreation Centre, located at 485 Montrose Avenue.
Here is the schedule for the TP House League Coaches meetings:
Wednesday April 23 > Tee Ball and Rookie Ball Division Coaches: 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. (Bob Abate C.R.C.)
Thursday April 24 > Mosquito and Peewee Division coaches: 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. (Bob Abate C.R.C.)
The purpose of these meetings will be to meet the other coaches in your division, to go over our expectations of you as coaches, to discuss our approach and philosophy, and to point out particular areas of interest and field any questions about what will be happening as we move forward into the season. Additionally, all coaches will be sent some written material over the next few days that I’d like you to read carefully so that we can discuss any questions or points arising from the material at our meeting next week.
At these meetings I will also be asking you to tell me any days that you won’t be available during our pre-season (Spring training) practice schedule, which will begin on Saturday May 3 and run until Thursday May 15. During that time I am hoping to schedule every team for three pre-season practices.
At the meetings, we will also be discussing some up-coming Coaching Clinic Sessions that we will be holding. There will be sessions for Rookie Ball, Mosquito, and Peewee coaches at Christie Pits on Monday April 28 and Wednesday May 1(Don’t worry…we’ll be asking you to attend one of the clinics, not both. We’re holding it twice to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get to one.)
There will be a separate clinic for Tee Ball coaches that will be led by veteran Tee Ball coach and umpire Mike Zimmerman…we’ll discuss the date at the meeting.
By May 1, coaches will receive copies of your team roster and the pre-season (spring training) practice schedule, which will begin on Saturday May 3 and run until Thursday May 15. We’ll be asking you to contact your players by e-mail by the evening of Thursday, May 2 to introduce yourself as their coach and tell them the details regarding your first practice. Our regular season commences on Tuesday, May 20.
The Committee thanks all of our coaches for taking the time and energy in volunteering to be a coach for the 2014 TP House League Baseball season.
