IN THE EBA SELECT SEASON OPENER FOR BOTH SQUADS, THE CARDINALS MADE THE MOST OF THEIR OPPORTUNITIES IN THEIR VICTORY OVER A GOOD SPIRITED TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS TEAM AT JEFF HEALEY-WOODFORD PARK
Game Post composed with file from Jason Koskela.
In a rain shortened EBA Select season opener for both teams, the Royal York Cardinals defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects 17-2 in six innings this evening at Jeff Healey-Woodford Park.
TP played some solid defense to keep the game close. However, the Cardinals eventually prevailed as their hitting took flight and they cobbled together a couple of big offensive innings to emerge with the victory.
Despite the score, a “good spirited” Toronto Playgrounds team never gave up and continued to battle right to the final out even with the rain coming down.
Here are some TP highlights:
- Cassius (5) and Theo (17) each had an RBI.
- Charlie (7) made a spectacular diving catch on a sizzling line drive to third base.
- Theo made a couple of nice Gold Glove defensive plays at second base.
The Rookie Ball Selects (0-1) will play their next EBA Select game on Tuesday, May 20 at Ravina Park against the Annette A’s at 6:30 p.m.
