Beneath rain drizzled and overcast skies this evening at Ravina Park, our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects edged the Annette A’s 11-9 in five innings to earn their first Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select victory of the season.

The TP offense made the most of the opportunities presented to them in the early innings as they constructed a sizable lead over Annette.

However, the pesky A’s refused to surrender to their fate as Annette staged a ferocious comeback attempt in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to two.

With their lead slipping away and the game on the line, the Rookie Ball Selects collective resolve stiffened as they made the necessary defensive plays to extinguish the Annette rally and seal the deal on a hard fought victory.

Here are the highlights:

  • Vincent (3) found his hitting stroke as he delivered consecutive triples (both of which were achingly close to being home runs) to power the TP offense.
  • The Rookie Ball Selects executed their first double play of the season in 5-4-3 fashion. (Third baseman Charlie (7) to second baseman Dexter (10) to first baseman Daniel (8).)
  • TP had lots of runners on base. And with that, many adventures on the basepaths.

Our Rookie Ball Selects (1-1) return home from an extended road trip to play their first EBA Select regular season game at Christie Pits Diamond 3 on Tuesday, May 27 when they host the Bloordale Bombers at 6:30 p.m.
