THE SUAVE METROPOLITANS RALLY FOR FOUR IN THE FINAL INNING TO USURP THE PESKY BIG RED MACHINE IN A FOUR ALARM BARNBURNER AT BICKFORD PARK
Game Post composed with file from Kevin Hewitt.
Beneath a canopy of cool and sunny skies, the Mets edged the Reds 9-8 in an exciting 3 ½ inning Mosquito Division showdown at the Bickford Park South Diamond.
The game between these two second year Mosquito Division expansion teams was a thrilling rock ’em sock ’em battle royale from beginning to end.
Trailing 5-1 in the top of the fourth, the Big Red Machine rallied in tenacious fashion by scoring seven runs to overtake the Metropolitans 8-5.
However, the Amazin’ Mets answered back in the bottom half of the fourth when they stormed back with four to usurp the Reds and earn a hard fought victory.
Here are some additional highlights:
- Nicolas (10) delivered a RBI double in the top half of the first to give the Reds an early 1-0 lead.
- The Reds starter (Mystery Pitcher who remains unidentified) struck out the first three batters that he faced in the bottom of the first to keep them off the scoresheet.
- The Mets tied the proceedings in the bottom of the second after Alden (5) powered a triple and stole home.
- The Reds seven run comeback in the fourth was predicated on a clutch triple delivered by a Mystery Batter who remains unidentified.
