GIVING NO QUARTER, THE BUCCANEERS SINK THE GO GO LIZZIES AT CHRISTIE PITS TO SEIZE THE GOLD DOUBLOONS OF SWEET VICTORY

Will (13) powered the Pirates assault with two clutch hits that generated 3 RBI's. Will also threw a scoreless inning of relief in the second inning where he made three Lizzies walk the plank by striking them out in shiver me timbers fashion.

Underneath hazy and humid seafaring skies, the Pirates defeated the Lizzies 10-4 in four keelhauling innings of Mosquito Division action on the high seas of Christie Pits Diamond Two Bay.

Here is Pirates Captain Jeff Kolyn‘s log of the events that transpired in the pitched and passionate battle for control of the mizzenmast:

  • Today’s game was highlighted by some exciting firsts for the Pirates. Jayden (5), stole his first base, and had his first perfect day at the plate, drawing two walks, both leading to two runs scored. Andre (15) also caught his first inning, calling a great inning and with two swinging strikeouts.
  • The first seven batters reached base in the first inning for the Buccaneers. Charlie (3), Jonah (10) and Mark (12) all showed a patient eye at the dish in drawing walks to loading the bases for Will (13) who stepped up and crushed a 2 RBI double to the fence in left field scoring a pair of runs. Olivia (6), Andres (15) [RBI], and Jeremy (4) [RBI]then drew walks to bring in for the final two Bucs runs of the inning.
  • In the bottom of the first, Pirates starter Charlie (3) threw the first two of nine strikeouts by Buccaneers pitchers on the night.
  • Alexia (14) prevented extra bases with a great defensive infield knock down play to keep the Lizzies batter to a single at first base.
  • The second inning saw the Pirates display great patience again at the plate as they drew four walks (Jayden [stolen base], Aaron (2) [Stolen Base], Alexia, and Oscar (1) [RBI]).  The last walk to Oscar came with two outs and two strikes to score the run.
  • In the bottom of the second, Bucs reliever Will stepped onto the mound and mowed down three batters (all swinging) with only four Lizzies making it to the plate.
  • The top of the third inning was highlighted by Jonah’s all out Pirates hustle to beat out a throw for an infield hit. It was text book example of running hard down the line and through the base at first. Jonah then proceeded to steal second and third and was driven home on a solid RBI single by Will (who then stole second base). Olivia stepped up next and stung a hard line drive to the shortstop but was thwarted by a nice grab.
  • In the bottom of the third, Pirates reliever, Aaron struck out the Go Go Lizzies side in convincing fashion, two called and one swinging.
  • The top fourth inning started with two quick outs, but the Pirates rallied again starting with Jayden’s second walk, followed by hits from Aaron, and Lucas (9) who hustled on an infield hit and beat the throw to first after solidly laying the lumber on the ball. Alexia walked for her second walk of the game in as many tries, bringing in the RBI, follow by Oscar who also picked up his second RBI walk. Charlie then hit an RBI single, and Jonah capped off the rally with a bases loaded walk.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Aaron pitched his second straight scoreless inning (pitching to Bucs catcher Mark, who gamely caught despite minor injury) making a great stab to save a single and throwing the runner out at first thanks to a solid grab from Jeremy. Aaron then caught a pop out and tossed a called strike three to end the game.
