Under a veil of warm skies, the Reds defeated the Cubs 12-6 in four barnburning innings of Mosquito Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here are the highlights:

  • The Reds pitching was almost airtight for the first three innings, highlighted by Griff striking out the side in a 1-2-3 second inning.
  • Reds pitchers Matthew and Joshua each contributed strong innings, allowing only one run each.
  • Hitting highlights for the Red Machine came from Matthew with a 2-run homer, Jake with a 3-run triple, and Alex with a triple that drove in the fourth run of the last inning.
  • The Cubs mounted a spirited comeback in the final inning, but reliever Jake finally put out the fire with some key strike outs.
  • The Reds gained their first win of the season in a barnburner against the Cubs.
