In the warmth of the night beneath the shimmer of the incandescent lights, the Lizzies edged the Orioles 13-12 in four barnburning innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Trailing 12-11, the Lizzies answered the clarion call in the bottom of the fourth and rallied for two runs in dramatic fashion to overtake the O’s. Flynn (7) delivered a clutch RBI single to drive in Harsha and tie the score. Subsequently, Leo stole home for the win.

Here are some additional highlights:

  • In the top of the first, Lizzies starter Jacob (2) struck out three O’s in 3 up – 3 down fashion.
  • Daniel (9) hit a lovely hard line drive two RBI double in the bottom of the first to drive in two runs for the Lizzies.
  • The Lizzies turned a great defensive play in the third on an Orioles deep dish pizza blast to the nether regions of centre-right field. Lizzies centre fielder Ryan (15) raced after the ball that was hit into the next diamond’s (Diamond 3) outfield. After retrieving the ball, he threw to second baseman Jacob, who had run from second to centre field to act as the cutoff man. In the blink of an eye, Jacob fired a laser strike from centre field all the way to third baseman Harsha who tagged the O’s batter out at third to complete a zowza zowza 8-4-5 putout.
  • The Orioles Thomas R. (5) delivered a 3 RBI triple to right field to end the top of the third inning.
  • The O’s big play of the game was Jonathan’s 3 RBI triple in the top of the fourth to put the Orioles ahead 12-11.
  • Ultimately, the Lizzies’ savvy at the plate led to the Orioles first defeat of the season, 13-12 in the bottom of the fourth.
