PLAYING A SOLID ALL AROUND GAME, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS TRANQUILIZE THE WOLVERINES TO WIN ITS EIGHTH EBA SELECT GAME OF THE SEASON AT CHRISTIE PITS

Top to bottom: TP Major Peewee Select starter Cam (77) pitched two strong innings against Weston to earn the win. Cam allowed only one run while striking out four Wolverines. In three trips to the dish, Cam went 1 for 1 [two walks, single] with two runs scored, four stolen bases and 2 RBI’s; Troy (37) powered the TP offensive barrage with three RBI's. In three trips to the dish, Troy went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 3 RBI's. Troy also closed out the victory on the mound by striking out three Wolverines in the fourth inning.

Beneath a canopy of serene skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects defeated the Weston Wolverines 11-3 in 3 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

TP starter Cam (77) struck out two in the top of the first to keep Weston off the scoresheet. Shortstop Tyler (42) hooked up with first baseman Owen (5) to turn a nifty 6-3 putout to record the first out of the game.

In the bottom of the first, TP made hay of seven walks issued by the Wolverines to jump out to an early 6-0 lead. After drawing a leadoff walk and stealing a pair of bases to reach third, Cam utilized some base running guile to steal home and score the first run of the game.

Exercising discipline at the dish, Adam (18), Jack H. (27) and Sasha (28) would garner consecutive walks to load the bases. Owen would follow with a RBI walk to plate Adam. Troy would reach base on a fielder’s choice to bring Jack H. home with the third run of the frame.

After Tyler reached base on a Weston error, Jacob (2) stroked a RBI single to score Owen. Jack K. (13) would follow with a sacrifice hit that allowed Troy to motor home. With Ben (88) drawing a two out walk to reload the bases, Cam drew a RBI walk bring Tyler home.

Weston scored a run in the top of the second to trim the deficit to five. After leading off the inning with a walk, Maiwan (8) would eventually come home to roost after a stolen base and a pair of TP errors.

Despite walking three Wolverines, TP starter Cam mowed down a pair to quell the Weston uprising. Cam also helped his cause by picking off a Weston baserunner at second for the third out. With runners at second and first, Cam used a deft touch to connect with second baseman Adam on a pretty 1-4 putout on the wayfaring Wolverine.

Toronto Playgrounds answered back with a run in the bottom of the second to take a 7-1 lead. With two runners on base, Troy (37) stroked a one out RBI single to bring home Sasha (28).

TP reliever Jacob (2) fanned a pair of Wolverines in the top of the third to keep them off the scoring ledger.

In the bottom of the third, TP added four more insurance runs to widen their advantage to 11-1. After Ben led off the inning with a walk and two stolen bases to reach third, Cam followed with a RBI single to bring Ben home.

With one out, Jack H. powered a RBI double to plate Cam with the second run of the frame. Subsequently, Owen followed with a RBI double that brought Jack H. home to roost. Next, Troy delivered a RBI single that allowed Owen to blaze home from second.

Weston gamely battled back with two in the top of the fourth to trail 11-3. Peter (24) would stroke a two RBI bases loaded single to bring home Luca (4) and Alex (42).

Shaken, but not stirred, TP closer Troy (37) would mow down three Wolverines to seal the deal on the victory.

The Major Peewee Selects (8-5) will host the Minor Peewee Selects (2-8) in their final EBA Select regular season of the season before the 2014 EBA Peewee Select Championship Playoffs commence. The all TP proceeding will take place at Christie Pits Diamond 2 on Wednesday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m.
