DOWN 11-9, THE BUCCANEERS SCORE TWO IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FINAL INNING TO DEADLOCK THE MIGHTY GIANTS AT BICKFORD PARK
Beneath a layer of serene seafaring skies, the Giants and Pirates battled to an 11-11 draw in four innings of shiver me timbers Peewee Division action this evening on the choppy shores of Bickford Park South Diamond Bay.
It was a high scoring seesaw affair where both squads combined for a total of twenty-eight walks and eight hits during the hour and fifty minute proceeding.
The Giants jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. After utilizing their speed to steal some bases and put pressure on the defense, Aidan (10), Sam (11) and Thor (12) came home to roost after a series of Pirates errors.
Pirates starter Zenon (8) mowed down three Giants with a Toro TimeCutter SS5000 23 HP Kawasaki Zero-Turn Riding Mower to quell the Giants uprising.
With Jolly Roger bravado, the Buccaneers answered back in the bottom of the first as they feasted upon seven walks to take a 4-3 lead. Respective RBI walks by Francis (11), Liam (10), Willem (5) and Max (1) with the bases loaded allowed Zenon, Aiden (14), Alex M. (14) and Francis to shimmy homeward.
In the top of the second, Bucs starter Zenon struck out three (two via dropped third strikes) to keep the Mighty Giants off the scoring ledger.
The Pirates added two more runs in the bottom of the second to widen their advantage to 6-3. Myles stroked a RBI single to deliver Nicholas (4) home with the inning’s first score. With one out and two runners on base, Alex (3) delivered a RBI sacrifice hit to bring Henry (15) homeward.
Giants reliever Sam (11) combined with catcher Piper (4) on a pair of nifty 1-2 putouts during the frame to extinguish the Pirates offensive surge.
Exercising patience at the dish, the Mighty Giants scored three in the top of the third to even the proceedings 6-6. After Aidan walked and Jasper (1) hit a double, Sam drew a one out free pass to put three ducks on the pond. Respective RBI walks from Thor, Jonah (15) and Piper would allow Aidan, Jasper and Sam to come homeward bound.
Bucs reliever Nicholas (4) would strike out three in the inning with a John Deere X305R Lawn Tractor to subdue the Giants insurrection.
However, the gnarly Pirates regained control of the mizzenmast in the bottom of the third when they scored three to retake the lead 9-6. With one aboard, Francis powered a RBI triple to bring Alex M. home with the inning’s first run.
With one out, Willem stroked a RBI single to plate Francis. Subsequently, with two outs and two baserunners aboard, Myles (7) delivered Willem home with a RBI single.
Giants reliever Jonah (15) struck out one Pirate during the third frame.
With the game on the line, the Mighty Giants rallied for five in the top of the fourth to take an 11-9 lead. After Cameron (3) walked and William (13) doubled to lead off the inning, Jasper drew a one out walk to load the bases. Emily (8) followed with a RBI walk to plate Cameron and trim the deficit to two. With the bases juiced to the gills, William would score from third and draw them within one on an errant Bucs pickoff attempt.
After Thor drew a two out walk to reload the bases, Mei (6) would follow and draw a RBI walk to bring Jasper home and tie the proceedings. Next, Jonah drew a RBI walk that allowed Emily to mosey home and give the Giants a 10-9 lead. Piper followed with a RBI single to deliver Thor home with an insurance run.
Pirates reliever Nicholas would mow down three more Giants during the inning to extinguish the Mighty Giants rebellion.
Refusing to give up the ship without a fight, the Buccaneers gamely clawed back with a pair in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. After loading the bases on three walks, Alex M. drew a one out RBI walk to bring Ethan (3) home and cut the deficit to one.
With the bases still loaded, Zenon would brazenly bolt homeward from third on an errant Giants pickoff attempt to tie the match.
Shaken, but not stirred, Giants reliever Cameron (3) would strike out two to suppress the Pirates mutiny and bring the game to a close.
