TIED 7-7, THE MAJESTIC ROYALS BREAK THE DEADLOCK IN DRAMATIC FASHION IN THE FINAL INNING TO CAPTURE A THRILLING VICTORY OVER THE HALOS AT CHRISTIE PITS
Game Post composed with files from Vincent Lynch and Steve Yacht.
Under a canopy of warm and humid skies, the Royals edged the Angels 8-7 in a four inning Mosquito Division thriller this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here is the Royals summary of the proceedings:
- The game started with Royals on the field with starting pitcher Henry (4) taking the mound in the top of the first. The Angels played tough and managed to get three runs before Henry finally shut the door by striking out the side.
- During the Royals turn at bat in the bottom of the first, Cal (13) started it off with a crisp single. Zev (7) followed that up with another single to send Cal home and cash in a RBI. Next, Henry walked and Mcai (14) spanked a double to drive in the Royals second run. With a couple more walks and some aggressive base running the Royals went on to take a 4-3 lead.
- The Royals sent in reliever Zev (7) in the top of the second and the Angels cranked out four runs to take the lead 7-4.
- In the bottom of the second, the Royals managed to trim the deficit to one by scoring two runs with RBI’s from a single by Elyna (12) and Cal showing extreme patience at the plate and getting a walk.
- Royals reliever Jeshan (9) entered the fray in the top of the third and allowed no Angels runs while mowing down the side with a Toro TimeCutter SWX4250 Riding Lawn Mower.
- The Royals Mcai collected his second hit of the night in the bottom of the third with a single. Then James (6) drove Mcai home to tie the game 7-7. However, the Angels defense slammed the door shut by leaving James (the potential go ahead run) stranded at third base.
- With the game all squared, there was time for one more inning. The Royals sent in their closer, James (6), in the top of the fourth. At first, James could not find the strike zone and walked the first two Angels batters. James then dug deep into his reserve tank and threw NINE consecutive strikes to strand the Angels runners at second and third to keep the proceedings tied.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Royals first three batters got on base via three consecutive walks to set up some bases loaded drama. Next, Dashielle (15) confidently walked up to the plate and cranked out a grace under pressure walk off game winning RBI single that sent his teammates and fans into a cheering frenzy.
- What excitement for a Thursday night!
Here is the Angels summary of the game:
- The Angels enjoyed a great start against the Royals by loading the bases in the first inning with timely steals by Maggie (4) and Alex (9) and a first RBI by Myles (3) leading to a three run tally.
- Angels starter Alex came out firing with an impressive strikeout. But the Royals came back strong with four runs of their own.
- Matt (11) opened the second with a walk and added a base, stealing second. Jack’s (10) good eye led to another walk followed by Maggie and Julien (8) being hit by pitches and reaching on walks leading to a four run inning.
- Halos reliever Cooper (2) pitched well in the bottom of the second and racked up three Royals strikeouts.
- Jona (#15) wowed the crowd with a powerful hit for a double in the third, but the rest of the team was unable to capitalize and no runs were scored.
- Making his TP pitching debut in the bottom of the third, Taio (1), struck out the first batter he faced and racked up two more K’s to close the inning.
- Despite several great efforts at the plate, the Angels couldn’t keep the bats going in the fourth and the Royals came back in the bottom of the inning to close out the game with a well deserved 8-7 victory.
