DOWN 7-2, THE SUAVE METROPOLITANS STAGE A MIRACULOUS COMEBACK IN THE FINAL INNING TO OVERTAKE THE MIGHTY GIANTS AT BICKFORD PARK
Under a layer of hazy and cloudy skies, the Mets rallied in grand fashion to top the Giants 9-7 in three innings of Peewee Division action this evening at the Bickford Park South Diamond.Trailing 7-2 and with their backs against the wall, the Metropolitans donned their rally caps in the bottom of the third and took advantage of six walks and a BIG hit to stage a miracle comeback to usurp the Mighty Giants.
Hayden (2) and Evan (13) drew a pair of walks to lead off the inning. A subsequent balk call would allow Hayden to come home to roost.
Joseph (9) and Michael (5) would follow with a back to back walks to load the bases. The ‘Mighty’ Quinn (6) would draw a RBI walk that allowed Evan to shimmy homeward. With one out, Julia (11) drew a RBI walk to bring Joseph home and trim the deficit to two.
With the bases still loaded, Aiden (12) stepped into the batter’s box and crushed a four run home run shot into the deep dish pizza nether regions of left field that delivered the Mets a miracle victory.
The proceeding was an entertaining affair played by two talented and well coached teams from start to finish.
The Giants made hay of five walks and a pair of singles in the top of the first to take an early 4-0 lead. Exercising patience at the dish, Sam (11), Thor (12) and Jasper (1) drew respective walks to lead off the inning and load the bases. Piper (4) and Aidan (10) would follow with RBI walks that allowed Sam and Thor to come homeward bound. Jasper would pounce on a Mets error to motor home and give the Giants a 3-0 advantage.
After a two out single by Leo (5) put two Giants on base, Will (13) stroked a RBI single that brought Aidan home. Mets starter Quinn (6) struck out one during the frame.
In the bottom of the first, the Mets answered back with a run to slice the margin to 4-1. With one out, the ‘Mighty’ Quinn was hit by pitch and proceeded to steal a pair of bases to advance to third. Seizing the moment, Quinn brazenly stole home to score the Mets first run of the game.
Giants starter Sam (11) struck out one during the inning to silence the Mets attack. With authority, Mets reliever Hayden (2) mowed down three in the top of the second in 1-2-3 fashion to keep the Giants off the scoresheet.
The Mets scored another run in the bottom of the second to trail 4-2. After a lead off single, Aiden would steal his way around the bases to reach third. Pouncing like a barracuda, Aiden would steal home and slice the deficit to two.
Giants reliever Will (13) struck out one during the inning to subdue the Mets insurgency.
Will was also helped out tremendously by some solid Gold Glove defense from his teammates. Giants second baseman Aidan snared a scorching line drive off the bat of Manny (15) in the webbing of his mitt to record the first out of the frame.
And Giants left fielder Emily (8) made a spectacular shoestring catch to rob Niall (3) of a sure hit to tally the third out of the frame.
In the top of the third, the Giants parlayed four walks and a pair of hits into three runs to widen their lead to 7-2. After Sam walked and Thor singled to lead off the inning, Sam would come home on a wild pitch.
With one out and a runner on base, Piper and Aidan garnered a pair of walks to load the bases. Mark (9) followed with a RBI walk to plate Thor. Leo would stroke a RBI single to bring home Piper.
Shaken, but not stirred, Mets reliever Mikey (10) would find the groove and strike out three to quell the Mighty Giants insurgency and leave the bases loaded.
And it was at this juncture in the game where the Mets entered the bottom of the third and came face to face with their moment with destiny.
