Under a ceiling of hazy summer skies, the Mets defeated the Rockies 8-4 in 3 ½ innings of Peewee Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is an Amazin’ Mets game summary courtesy of  Carroll Balot, the Mets Official Communications Officer:

  • On Monday evening, the Mets exhibited great teamwork in their 8-4 win over the Rockies.
  • Mets starting pitcher Hayden (2) got the team off to a strong start, throwing a strikeout and then contributing to a double play by catching a line drive and throwing the ball to Michael (5) at first base who tagged the Rockies base runner.
  • In the bottom of the first, Michael hit a double and stole home, and Joseph (9) got on base with a single.
  • In the top of the second inning, the Metropolitans pulled together for a triple play, as Michael caught the ball, tagged the runner coming back to first base, and then threw to Mets reliever Niall (3), who relayed the ball to Rory (4) at third base, where the runner had sped on to home plate without tagging up.
  • In the bottom of the second, Niall and Hayden got on base with respective singles and Joseph (9) hit a triple and stole home.
  • Mets reliever Rory (4) threw a strikeout in the top of the third and contributed to a pair of forced plays with catcher Julia (11) at home plate and with Michael at third base.
  • In the bottom of the third, Michael, Julia and Rory all stole home and Hayden came home to roost on an RBI.
  • The game came to an end in the top of the fourth inning with Mets closer Michael (5) retiring the pesky Rockies and sealing the deal on hard fought victory.

And here is a Rockies summary of the proceedings:

  • The Rockies lost their first game of the season to the Mets.
  • In the top of the first, Griff (11) started off with base hit and was brought home by a RBI double from Isaac (13).
  • Gabriel (8) hit a deep grounder into right field for a 2 RBI base hit in the second that brought home two more runs for the Rockies.
  • The game remained close going into the bottom of second inning with a strong showing on the mound from Rockies reliever Teddy (12).
  • The Mets defense managed a triple play in the top of the second to shut down the Rockies offensively, after which the Rockies managed only one more run all game.
  • The Metropolitans kept up a strong showing at the plate to prevail 8 to 4.
