Beneath a ceiling of tranquil summer skies, the Annette A’s defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Selects 10-7 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was a tight and riveting affair between two talented and well coached teams. In the end, the pesky A’s rallied from a 7-6 deficit in the top of the fifth and subdued a TP rally bid to prevail for the hard fought victory.

Annette jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. After a one out double by Cole (23), Conor (18) stroked a RBI single to bring him home with the opening run of the game. With a runner at third, Conal (35) delivered a RBI single to plate Conor.

TP starter Daniel (50) would strike out one to quell the A’s insurgency.

In the bottom of the first, TP responded to the Annette salvo by scoring five to take a 5-2 lead. After a one out double by Avi (12), Alex (22) and Daniel drew a pair of walks to load the bases. Aaron (52), Ethan (36) and Leandro (10) followed with a series of RBI walks to bring Avi, Alex and Daniel home to give TP a 3-2 lead.

With the bases still juiced to the gills, Will (14) hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed Aaron to come home to roost. Alden (7) followed with a RBI single to plate Ethan.

The A’s would answer back with a pair in the top of the second to trim the deficit to one. With two outs, Luca (45) singled and Cole walked to put two runners on the basepaths. Conor would follow and deliver a grace under pressure 2 RBI double that sliced the margin to 5-4.

With determination, TP starter Daniel would strike out three during the inning to extinguish the Annette uprising.

With a little defensive help from his friends, Annette starter Seamus (2) would keep TP off the bases and the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.

After getting himself into a bases loaded jam in the top of the third, TP starter Daniel would use utilize a strikeout and a superb 3-2 double play to keep the A’s off the scoresheet.

With one out and the bases loaded, first baseman Daniel [who was relieved by TP relief pitcher Alden] would vacuum up a hard hit ground ball off the bat of Jonathan (14), step on the bag for a force out at first and record the second out of the frame. In a split second, Daniel saw Seamus of the A’s making a brazen dash for home from third, and immediately made a laser throw to catcher Jake (30), who adroitly applied the tag on the sliding Seamus for the third out in a chitty chitty bang bang play at the plate.

TP would tack on another run in the bottom of the third to widen its advantage to 6-4. With two ducks on the pond, Leandro would deliver a RBI single to bring Daniel home.

Annette starter Seamus would induce TP to hit into three groundouts to bring the curtain down on the inning.

However, the A’s would take advantage of five walks in the top of the fourth to score a pair and tie the game 6-6. With the bases loaded, Charlie (13) and Seamus garnered respective one out RBI walks to plate Luca and Conor.

Shaken, but not stirred, TP reliever Alden (7) found the groove and struck out three during the inning to extinguish the Annette rebellion.

In the bottom of the fourth, TP replied with a run to retake the lead 7-6. After leading off the inning with a walk, Jake advanced to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Avi would step into the batter’s box and deliver a clutch RBI single that allowed Jake to motorvate homeward with the go ahead score.

Down by one, the pesky A’s refused to surrender in the top of the fifth as they rallied for four to take a 10-7 lead. After a lead off double by Jonathan, Luca and Cole drew a pair of walks to load the bases. Conor would follow with a sacrifice hit that allowed Jonathan to scoot home and tie the proceedings.

After a one out walk by Conal reloaded the bases, Charlie would work the count in his favour and draw a RBI walk to bring Luca home with the go ahead run. Next, after a RBI walk by Seamus that brought Cole home to roost, Seamus would stroke a RBI single to deliver Conal home with another insurance run.

TP reliever Aaron (52) would strike out two during the inning to douse the Annette insurgency.

After allowing a lead off walk, A’s reliever Conor (18) would strike out the next three TP batters to seal the deal on the victory.
