Beneath a ceiling of unrelenting hazy and humid skies, the Mets prevailed 9-6 over the Giants in three broiling innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Bickford Park.

Despite the uncomfortable heat on the diamond surface, the game was an entertaining affair played between two talented and well coached teams. In the house league spirit of fair play, the Giants loaned the Mets two of their premier players [Mark and Thor] so the shorthanded Metropolitans could field a competitive team.

The Mets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After drawing a one out walk, the ‘Mighty’ Quinn (14) stole his way around the bases to score the opening run of the game.

Giants starter Nigel (14) would strike out three in the first to quell the Mets rebellion.

The Giants would answer the Mets salvo by scoring four in the bottom of half of the first to take a 4-1 lead. After Nigel led off the frame with a walk and a pair of stolen bases to reach third, Will (13) would deliver him home with a RBI double to tie the game. Will would proceed to steal third and home to give the Giants the lead.

After drawing a walk, Emily (8) would swipe a pair of bases to advance to third. Cameron (3) followed with a searing RBI triple to bring Emily home to roost.

After Jasper (1) drew a one out walk to put two runners on base, Curtis (2) would stroke a two out RBI single to plate Cameron.

Mets starter Mikey (10) would strike out two during the inning.

In the top of the second, the Mets answered back with four to retake the lead 5-4. After Thor (12) was hit by pitch and Joseph (9) singled to put two ducks on the pond, the ‘Mighty’ Quinn powered a one out 2 RBI double to bring them homeward. Subsequently, the ‘Mighty’ Quinn would blaze home on a wild pitch and tie the game.

After Hayden (2) singled and Mikey walked to put two Mets on base, Michael (6) would stroke a RBI single to bring Hayden home with the Mets go ahead run.

Giants reliever Aidan (10) would strike out one during the second.

In the bottom of the second, the Giants would reply with a run to tie the game 5-5. After leading of the frame with a walk, Nigel proceeded to steal teo bases to reach third. Will would follow with a sacrifice hit to bring Nigel home and square the proceedings.

With the bases loaded, Mets reliever Hayden (2) battled the heat to strike out one and pitch himself out of a mojo jojo jam by leaving the bases stranded.

The Mets took the bull by the horns in the top of the third as they scored four to take a 9-5 lead. After Mark (9) singled and Thor reached base on a dropped third strike, Mikey drew a one out walk to load the bases. The ‘Mighty’ Quinn would follow with a sacrifice hit to deliver Mark home with the go ahead run.

Next, Hayden would step into the batter’s box and launch a majestic two out 2 RBI double that brought Thor and Mikey home. Subsequently, Hayden would come home on a Giants error.

Giants pitcher Nigel would strike out one and induce a ground out during the inning.

Refusing to surrender, the Giants donned their rally caps in the bottom of the third to gamely score a run to trim the deficit to three. After Curtis and Nigel led off the inning with a pair of walks to put two Giants on the basepaths, Cameron launched a one out infield sacrifice fly that allowed Curtis to advance homeward safely at his own risk.

On the same infield fly rule play and with two outs, Mets closer Quinn (14) noticed that the Giants base runner had strayed to far from third and made a lightning throw to third baseman Aidan, who tagged the runner out to end the game.
