TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS SNAPS A 4-4 TIE IN THE FINAL INNING TO PREVAIL FOR A THRILLING VICTORY OVER THE RIVERDOGS AT SMYTHE PARK

DELIVERY MEN > Top to bottom: After Jordan L. (10) powered a triple in the top of the seventh inning, Cassius (5) stroked a grace under pressure RBI single to deliver him home with TP’s winning run over York. Jordan L. delivered a single and two triples with three runs scored against the Riverdogs. Meanwhile, Cassius sparked the TP attack with two key singles that generated 3 RBI’s versus York.

Under a blanket of hot and humid skies for miles around, our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects edged the York Riverdogs 5-4 in seven broiling innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Loop play this evening at Smythe Park.
Here are the highlights:

TP started out strong in the top of the first by scoring three runs on four hits to take an early 3-0 lead. Liam (10) started out with a single. Jordan L (10) moved him around with a single. Cassius (5) came up and smashed a single and registered 2 RBI’s. Jordy (1) then got a single and got an RBI to finish the inning with three runs.

In the bottom of the first, York did not score.

The pitching machine had a stellar inning in the second and kept both teams scoreless.

In the top of the fourth, Toronto Playgrounds extended its lead to 4-0. Jordan L. started the inning off with a triple and Jordy (1) came up and hit one to the left side and got out at first but also collected an RBI on the sacrifice hit.

The Riverdogs offense growled to life in the bottom of fourth as they managed to get two runs on three hits and make the game 4-2

In the top of the fifth, TP went three up and three down.

York added another run in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 4-3.

In the sixth, TP did not score. However, York rallied with one to tie the game.

With time for one more inning, Jordan L. came up and smashed a triple in the top of the seventh. Cassius proceeded to hit a clutch single and the game winning RBI.

In the bottom of the seventh, TP’s solid ‘Wall of Sound’ defense snuffed out any possible comeback by the Riverdogs as TP emerged with a hard fought victory at the dawg pound.
After a lengthy July road trip, the TP Rookie Ball Selects (7-4) return home to the friendly confines of Christie Pits Diamond 3 to host the Royal York Cardinals on Sunday, August 9 at 6:00 p.m.
