IN A DOG DAYS OF SUMMER AFFAIR, THE BLUEBIRDS REIGN IN THE HALOS FOR THE VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Game Post composed with files from Jeff Kolyn and Clint Lau
Beneath a blanket of hot and humid midsummer skies, the Jays defeated the Angels 12-7 in three blistering innings of Mosquito Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here is a Jays summary of the proceedings:
- The Jays took flight in the top of the first by jumping out to an early 4-0 lead. Vince (8) [hit], Josh (3) [walk], Matthew (11) [walk] and James (13) [walk) all got on base, and stole three bases in the inning including home.
- Jays starter Vince (8) pitched the bottom of the first and was just missing the corners. As he kept at it, Vince put in a best effort, aided by Noah (9) at catcher.
- In the top of the second, Jeremy (4) walked and stole second. Ernesto (15) followed and drove him home with an RBI double. Ernesto then stole two bases including home with an all out slide! After Noah walked and stole a pair of bases, Ibrahim (8) walked and forced a run in. Matthew hit a fielders choice to force in the final run of the inning which allowed the Jays to widen their lead to 8-4.
- Jays reliever Matthew (11) pitched the bottom of the second and extricated himself out a bases load jam by striking out three and limiting the Angels to two runs. Andre (6) did a great job catching for the Bluebirds.
- After Luz (5) walked and stole two bases in the top of the third, Andre walked and stole second to put two Jays on the pond. After James walked again, Lucas (1) walked and forced a run home, later stealing third. After Jeremy delivered a bases load single that plated two runs he then stole second base. After Ernesto walked, Noah drove in a run with an RBI single to stretch the Bluebirds advantage to 12-6.
- Jays closer Lucas (1) mopped up the bottom of the third by limiting the Halos to one run while striking out three. As catcher Jeremy framed Lucas like a Picasso, the Jays closed the deal on a hard fought victory over the Angels.
Here is an Angels account of the game:
- Despite awesome pitching by Angels starter Julien (8), who struck out two Jays batters in the top of the first, the Jays scored four with some aggressive base running.
- The Angels rallied back to tie the game in the bottom of the first with some of their own aggressive running as Jona (15) stole two bases and scored on an RBI single by Sadie (6). Kiran (5) and Cooper (2) also contributed to the Halos attack with a RBI each.
- Angels reliever Aiden (13) had an impressive outing in the top of the second by inducing the Jays batters to ground out to Alex (9) and Jona. But once again, the Jays managed to regain the lead 8-4.
- In the bottom of the second, the Halos were held to two runs with respective RBIs from Sadie and Kiran.
- With hard throwing Angels reliever Cooper (2) on the mound in the top of the third, the Jays fought off some excellent pitching to extend their lead to 12-6.
- Donning their rally caps in the bottom of the third, the Angels rally attempt fell short despite a run scored by Julien and an RBI single by Matthew (11).
