The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee has revised the scheduled time for an important clinic for all house league umpires on Sunday, August 9 at Christie Pits Diamond 3

In a concerted effort to allow more umpires to participate in the training session, we’re rescheduling the second clinic (originally scheduled for Sunday morning) to 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The clinic will last no more than 90 minutes.

The purpose of the umpire clinic is to go over some specific things and game situations, and to also give all of you a chance to talk about how your umpiring season has gone so far so that we can discuss together points of concern or things that need to be clarified. Jason Lee, our umpire coordinator, will be leading the clinic along with some of our senior umpires.

One of the main things we will be going over is the correct way to umpire with a three-person crew. We know that many of you would like to be able to ump in more games, and one of the best ways for that to happen is for all of you to learn the right way to work as a three-person crew. Obviously being able to have three umps work a game means more games for everyone. However, until you’ve done one of these clinics we won’t be scheduling you as part of a three-person crew.
