DOWN 9-4, THE BLUEBIRDS STAGE A DRAMATIC COMEBACK IN THE FINAL INNING TO USURP THE M’s AT CHRISTIE PITS
Game Post composed with file from Jeff Kolyn
Beneath a layer of warm midsummer skies, the Jays edged the Mariners 10-9 in a dramatic three innings of Mosquito Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.
Here is a Jays summary of the proceedings:
-
Jays rally from five down to top the Mariners 10-9 in 3 innings.
-
In the top of the first, Jays starter Camille (14) pitched for the third time this season. Camille was able to strikeout a batter and was close to a few more. Overall, her pitching is coming around.
-
Ernesto (15) led off the bottom of the first with a base hit and stole three bases, including home. Josh (3) followed him with a walk and two steals of his own. Luz (5) walked and stole a base. Vincent (7) smacked a solid single to right field and scored one more. Camille took one for the team and got hit by the pitch to load the bases for Theo (2) who smashed a two run single to close the inning.
-
Jays reliever Josh (3) pitched the top of the second and was able to strike out the side while holding the Mariners to only three runs, which would come back to benefit the Jays down the road.
-
In the bottom of the second, Noah (9) led off with a solid hit to left field and stole second base, where he was stranded.
-
Jays reliever Theo (2) pitched the top of the third and held the M’s to just two runs while striking out the side. The biggest part of the inning came when the Mariners smashed what was a sure homer to deep left field. However Jays left fielder Noah chased it down, and relayed it to Josh, who got it back quickly to the infield to stop the M’s base runner at third base. Theo then struck out two batters, and stranded the M’s runner at third base.
-
Down 9-4, the Jays donned their rally caps in the bottom of the third. Josh lead off with a 3-2 walk and stole his way to third base. Luz (SB), Vince, and Camille (RBI) then follow Josh with walks of their own. Theo then hit another bases load single that scored Josh and trim the margin to 9-6. Andre (6) walked and picked up a bases loaded RBI to slice the deficit to two.
-
At this juncture, Ernesto came to the plate. With two outs and an 0-2 count, Ernesto smashed a ball to DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP center field that allowed Camille and Theo to come homeward and tie the game! On the same play, Andre came flying around the bases with lightning speed and slid home safely with the Jays winning run on the bases clearing 3 RBI triple by Ernesto!!!
