Beneath warm and serene summer evening skies, the Angels edged the Mariners 6-5 in four thrilling innings of Mosquito Division action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here is an Angels summary of the proceedings:
- The Angels were back at home tonight looking for their second win in a row.
- Angels starter Alex (9) had an outstanding outing on the mound in the top of the first where he held the Mariners to only one run with some solid strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Halos defense gave him great backup in the field.
- In the bottom of the first, the Angels bats came alive with hits by Alex, Cooper (2), Jack (10), and loaner player Mekai rounding out the hitting with a solid triple that propelled the Angels into the lead 4-1
- Angels reliever Cooper (2) tool to the hill in the top of the second and held the M’s off the scoresheet while striking out three.
- The Angels added an important run in the bottom of the second to extend their advantage to 5-1.
- The Mariners bats surged to life in the bottom of the third as they scored four to tie the proceedings 5-5.
- Mariners’ reliever Liam shut down the Angels potent offense in the top of the third by holding them off the scoreboard.
- Reliever Cameron shut down the Mariners in the top of the fourth by striking out the side to keep the game knotted 5-5.
- In the bottom of the fourth, a solid at bat by Kiran (5) to draw a walk set the stage for Cameron, who seized the opportunity to hit a clutch walk-off triple that delivered Kiran home for a 6-5 Angels win.
