Beneath a sheath of warm and hazy summer skies, the A’s defeated the Royals in three innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Here is an Athletics account of the proceedings:

  • The mighty A’s stormed out of the gates in the top of the first as they took an early 4-0 lead. After the A’s loaded the bases, Charlie (7) stroked a 2 RBI single. Three walks later, the Athletics plated two more to score four in the top half of the inning.
  • A’s starter Charlie (7) pitched a perfect bottom half of the first to preserve the A’s four run advantage.
  • In the top of the second, the A’s were able add a run to stretch their lead to 5-0. The run was scored from singles by Anthony (12) and Charlie, combined with walks by Sasha (14), and Oliver (6).
  • A’s reliever Nathan (13) pitched a solid bottom half of the second by mixing an elixir of three walks with three strikeouts to keep the Royals off the scoresheet.
  • In the top of the third, Yonah (1) pounded a 2 RBI single to drive in a pair and the A’s also added another run on walks to make the score 8-0.
  • The majestic Royals fought back to score four runs in the bottom of the third to trim the deficit to four.
  • With Simon (2) catching his first inning of the season, A’s reliever Yonah (1) started the bottom half of the third by giving up three runs while making some quality pitches to stymie the Royals. Yonah was also helped out by a nifty 6-5 putout by Oliver and Nathan (13) for the first out.
  • Charlie was summoned from the A’s bullpen and he struck out the final two Royals batters to seal the deal on a hard fought victory.
