Under a ceiling of picturesque summer skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects journey at the 2015 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Rookie Ball Select Championship Tournament came to end this afternoon in Etobicoke.
Each team participating in this season’s EBA Rookie Ball Select Championship Tournament is working under the double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from the tourney once they have lost two playoff elimination games.
TP had opened the tourney yesterday evening with a 14-8 victory over the Martingrove White Sox at Broadacres Park.
In a playoff game this morning, the Royal York Cardinals prevailed 14-12 over TP in a hard fought six inning affair at Broadacres Park
Then, in a do or die game for both teams, the Annette A’s topped the TP Rookie Ball Selects 12-7 in seven innings at Jeff Healey Park. When the dust had settled, it was clear that both squads gave it their all to stay alive at the tournament and left everything on the field of play.
With the pair of Saturday losses, Toronto Playgrounds (1-2) is officially eliminated from further championship playoff play.
The TP Rookie Ball Selects had a fun and successful season of baseball where they finished the 2015 EBA Select Loop campaign with a 7-7 regular season record.
In addition, the TP Rookie Ball Selects had a great time at the Wexford Agincourt Rookie Ball Tournament back in May and the Lloyd McConnie Rookie Ball Tournament in July.
The TP Baseball Committee wishes to thank Rookie Ball Select Head Coach Aidan Wener; Assistant Coaches John Gordon, Jason Koskela and Joe Pernice for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Rookie Ball Selects through the highs and lows of a fun and productive 2015 season.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the Rookie Ball Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism on and off the diamond at the tournament and throughout the long season.
WAY TO GO, TP!
