Beneath a serene layer of warm mid August summer skies, the Giants edged the Expos 8-7 in three thrilling innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is a Giants summary of the proceedings:

  • The Giants prevailed over a never-say-die Expos team in the early matchup on Diamond 2 at Christie Pits.
  • Thanks to a remarkable comeback by the Expos, the game was deadlocked 7-7 halfway through the third inning.
  • However, a one-out single by Charlie (4) in bottom of the third brought his brother Will (13) home for the Giants walk-off victory.
  • The game began with the Giants starter Curtis (2) taking the mound and throwing a three-strikeout, no-runs top of the first. It’s evident that the Mighty Giants have been a different team since Curtis returned from the DL earlier this summer.
  • Emilie (8) delivered a RBI single in the second inning to bring home the Giants fifth run. Emilie is on a tear with three hits in her last four at bats.

In the bottom of the first, the Giants’ offence came alive and notched four runs to give the team a healthy 4-0 lead. Mark (9) scored the first run when he stole home. Thor (12) and Curtis scored runs two and three on a two-RBI single from Nigel (14). And Nigel was brought home by Leo’s (5) inning-ending double.

  • Giants reliever Mark (9) pitched the top of the second for the Giants. It was only his second pitching assignment of the year, but it was a productive one. Mark struck out two Expos batter while allowing only two runs.
  • The Giants defensive highlight of the second inning was an exchange between catcher Curtis and first baseman Nigel that extinguished an Expos base runner at first and stymied another runner at third from scoring at the plate. As an Expos batter bolted for first base on a dropped third strike, Curtis fired the ball to Nigel at first even though there was an Expos base runner on third. However, Nigel immediately hurled the ball back to Curtis at the plate. In the end, the Expos batter was out at first and the runner on third stayed there.
  • In the bottom of the second, Emilie (8) put her batting skills on display once more when she singled and cashed in Mark for the Giants fifth run. Emilie has now hit three times in her last four at bats. Thor also scored in the inning, stealing home, and the score was 6-2 for the Giants at the end of two.
  • However, in the top of the third, the Expos mounted their remarkable comeback. The pesky Expos scored five runs on four hits (including a triple) to take a 7-6 lead.
  • With the Expos holding a slender one run advantage heading into the bottom of the third (and final) inning, the stage was set for brothers Charlie and Will to snatch a narrow victory for the Giants.
