Flynn also pitched a solid first inning where she limited the Bucs to one run while striking out two; Julia (11) [bottom] powered the Mets attack by going 2 for 2 [single, double] at the dish with 3 RBI’s.
The proceeding was an entertaining and well played affair contested by two talented and well coached teams. In the end, the Metropolitans utilized some strong pitching and solid defense to stymie the Bucs at crucial junctures of the game. The Mets also made the most of the offensive opportunities that were presented to them to prevail for the victory.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After being hit by pitch to open the game, Francis (11) swiped second and advanced to third on a Mets error. Elliot (12) would stroke a one out RBI single to plate Francis.
Mets starter Flynn (7) would strike out two in the first to quell the Pirates insurgency.
In the bottom of the first, the Metropolitans would answer back with three to take a 3-1 lead. With one out and runners at third and first, the Mets executed a double steal with Quinn (14) moving to second and Aidan (12) coming home with the tying run.
Flynn would follow with a RBI single to plate Quinn with the go ahead score. After Flynn stole second, Julia (11) stroked a RBI single to bring her home to roost.
Pirates starter Zenon (8) would strike out one in the bottom of the first to douse the Mets attack.
The Buccaneers would reply with two in the top of the second to tie the game 3-3. After reaching base on a dropped third strike, Alex (9) would advance all the way to third on a Mets error on the play. Myles (7) followed with a RBI single to bring Alex home.
With two outs, Aaron (6) stroked a RBI double that allowed Myles to come home with the tying run.
Mets reliever Quinn (14) would strike out one in the second to curtail the Pirates mutiny.
With authority, the Mets would utilize a weaponry of three hits and three walks to score four in the bottom of the second to take a 7-3 lead. After leading off the inning with a single, Joseph (9) would advance to third via a steal and wild pitch. From that perch, Joseph would swipe home with the go ahead run.
Flynn would deliver a RBI single to plate Mike (6). With two outs and a pair of ducks on the pond, Julia followed with 2 RBI double that allowed Quinn and Flynn to come homeward bound.
In a spirited effort on the hill, Pirates reliever Francis (11) struck out one in the bottom half of the second.
The Bucs would answer with a run in the top of the third to trim the deficit to three. After a beautiful lead off triple by Francis, Myles delivered a one out sacrifice hit to deliver him home.
Mets reliever Hayden (2) would strike out two to extinguish the Pirates attack.
Pirates reliever Aaron (6) would strike out two in the bottom of the third to keep the Mets off the scoring ledger.
With a little help from her friends, Mets closer Julia (11) would strike out one in the top of the fourth to seal the deal on a hard fought win over the gnarly Buccaneers.
