Beneath a night ceiling of overcast skies, the Lizzies topped the Angels 7-5 in 3½ innings of Mosquito Division action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is a Lizzies account of the proceedings:

  • Despite a spirited two strikeout effort by Lizzies starter Julian (10), the Angels scored four runs in the top of the first to take an early 4-0 lead.
  • The Lizzies answer back with three in the bottom of the first to slice the deficit to one. After Shamus (9) was hit by pitch and Sebastian (2) walked to put base runners at second and first, both Lizzies executed a successful double steal to move themselves into scoring position. Thomas (13) followed with an one out sacrifice hit to plate Shamus and move Sebastian to third. After a walk by Julian (5) put two runners aboard, Dylan (8) launched a clutch two out 2 RBI double to bring Sebastian and Julian home.
  • The Angels would tack on another run in the top of the second to widen their lead to 5-3. In a solid effort, Lizzies reliever Dajuan (7) held the Halos to only one run in the second while striking out two.
  • In the bottom of the second, the Lizzies rallied with a run to trim the margin to 5-4. With Felix (3) on third, Luca C. (14) delivered a one out RBI single to left centre to bring him home to roost. With two outs, the Lizzies garnered three walks to load the bases. However, the Angels bullpen vanquished the threat and left the bases stranded.
  • Lizzies reliever Cameron (6) would pitch a scoreless top of the third to keep the Angels off the scoreboard and in the pews.
  • The Lizzies would score three in the bottom of the third to take a 7-5 lead. After leading off the frame with a walk, Julian would swipe a pair of bases to reach third. After a walk to Dylan, Kazuo (10) would be hit by pitch to load the bases. Cameron, Felix and Liam (11) would follow with a series of RBI walks that would allow Julian, Dylan and Kazuo to come homeward bound.
  • Lizzies closer Shamus (9) would mow down three Angels with a John Deere D105 17.5-HP Single-Cylinder Automatic 42-in Lawn Tractor in the top of the fourth to keep them off the scoresheet and seal the deal on a hard fought victory over the Halos.
