TAKING NO PRISONERS, THE GNARLY BUCCANEERS SWASHBUCKLE THE GRITTY ROCKIES TO EARN A SEMI-FINAL BERTH AGAINST THE LIZZIES

Elliot (12) delivers a RBI hit in the fourth inning that brings Nick (4) home with the Pirates winning run over the Rockies at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Under a canopy of sunny and tranquil skies, the Pirates defeated the Rockies 13-6 in five innings of Peewee Division elimination round action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2 to advance to the semi-final round of the ‘September Madness’ tournament.
With their victory, the Pirates (6) will face the Lizzies in a 7:45 p.m. Peewee Division Semi-final game on Tuesday (September 15) evening at Diamond 2.
The proceeding was an entertaining and well played affair contested between two gifted and well schooled teams. In fact, it was a tight 6-5 game after three innings of play until the Pirates went for the jugular in the latter two frames and sailed away for a convincing playoff elimination victory.
Here are the highlights:
- The Bucs would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With two outs, Henry (13) would dart home from third on a wild pitch to score the opening run of the game. Subsequently, Alex (2) would blaze home with another run on a Rockies error.
- Rockies starter Adi (1) would strike out one in the first to quell the Pirates insurrection.
- Adi would help himself out mightily during the inning on a nice 1-5 double play putout. After Daniel (13) stroked a screaming hot tamale line drive back towards the mound, Adi caught the sizzler in the shoestrings of his glove to record the first out. Then Adi threw over to third baseman Thomas (9) to turn a double play on Francis (11), who had strayed too far from third.
- In the bottom of the first, the Rockies would score one to trim the shortfall to two. After a lead off single, Matt (10) would steal his way around to score the Rockies first run.
- Pirates starter Aaron (6) would strike out two in the first to extinguish the Rockies rebellion.
- Adi would strike out two in the top of the second to keep the Pirates off the scoring ledger and in the brig.
- Rockies catcher Thomas made a cannon throw to second baseman Rahim (2) to erase Max (1), who was attempting to steal third.
- The Rockies would score one in the bottom of the second to tie the game 2-2. Rahim would stroke a one out RBI sacrifice hit to bring Thomas home with the tying run.
- With a little help from his friends, Bucs reliever Zenon (8) would pacify the Rockies in the second.
- The Pirates would explode for four in the top the third to take a 6-2 lead. After a lead off walk, Aaron would advance to third on a stolen base and wild pitch. Alex Mac (9) would follow with a sacrifice hit to plate Aaron with the go ahead run.
- Subsequently, with one out two ducks on the pond, the Rockies would commit a grand faux pas on a dropped third strike to Daniel which allowed Francis and Henry to motor homeward. Alex would follow with a sacrifice hit to plate Daniel.
- In the bottom of the third, the Rockies would reply with three to slice the margin to 6-5. With two outs and a runner on second, the Bucs committed an error that allowed Teddy to reach base and Matt to steamroll home. After a walk to Adi put two aboard, Thomas stroked a clutch 2 RBI double to deliver Teddy and Adi home.
- Shaken, but not stirred, Zenon would strike out one in the third to subdue the Rockies assault. Second baseman would make a pair of nice popup catches to record the second and third outs of the inning.
- Going for the jugular, the Buccaneers plated four in the top of the fourth to widen their advantage to 10-5. After Nick (4) and Zenon led off the frame with back to back walks to put two runners on base, Elliot (12) stroked a RBI single that allowed Nick to zoom homeward.
- With one out, Max would draw a walk to load the bases. Feasting upon a gnarly treasure trove of walks, Willem (5), Aiden (14) and Ethan (3) would garner respective RBI walks that brought Zenon, Elliot and Max home to the Captain’s Mess.
- Pirates reliever Daniel (13) would strike out one in the bottom of the fourth to keep the Rockies off the scoreboard and in the mountains.
- In the top of the fifth, the Bucs would tack on three insurance runs to extend their lead to 13-5. With two Pirates aboard the high seas, Henry would stroke a RBI single to plate Alex Mac. Daniel would follow with a 2 RBI single to bring Francis and Henry home to shore.
- Rockies reliever Isaac (13) would strike out one in the fifth to extinguish the Pirates looting and pillaging.
- Refusing to wave the white flag of surrender, the Rockies gamely rallied with a run in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to seven. Adi would deliver a RBI sacrifice hit to bring Isaac home to the cabin.
- Aaron would strike out two in the fifth to seal the deal on the Buccaneers elimination game win.
