Under a canvas of hot and hazy skies, the Orioles defeated the A’s 14-11 in four barn burning innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at Trinity-Bellwoods Diamond 2.

Here is an A’s account of the proceedings:

  • It was a spirited affair between the A’s and Orioles on a muggy late July summer day at Trinity Bellwoods Park, with the Athletics jumping out to an early lead, only to see the O’s have a massive late inning rally to seal the win.

  • A’s starter Pasha (7) pitched a masterful top of the first by retiring the Orioles in three up three down fashion on only  seven pitches.

  • The A’s posted the maximum four runs in the bottom of the first by combining patience at the plate with a key RBI single by Cooper (2), which staked the A’s to an early 4-0 lead.

  • Athletics reliever Jonas (8) took over from where starter Pasha left off by blanking the O’s in the top of the second and stranding their runners on base.

  • In the bottom of the second, the A’s offense kept rolling again by showing great plate discipline to set the table for Jayden (11), who smashed a 2 RBI triple to stake the Athletics to an 8-0 lead.

  • A’s reliever James (9) made his first bullpen appearance since coming back from summer vacation. James pitched a tremendous inning despite giving up four runs due to some fielding issues and a very disciplined Orioles batting lineup.

  • The A’s plated three in the bottom half of the third to widen their lead to 11-4.

  • Athletics closer Alex (10) put on a brave effort in the face of a relentless Orioles rally in the top of the fourth that took advantage of some defensive brain cramps by the A’s to score ten runs and stake the O’s to a 14-11 lead going into the final half frame.

  • The A’s managed to get the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the fourth but were unable to close the gap.
