THE ATHLETICS TAKES DOWN TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS IN A SEMI-FINAL SHOWDOWN AT MILLWOOD PARK
2016 Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Select Team
The Annette A’s defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects 10-3 this evening in Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Championship semi-final action at Millwood Park.
Each team participating in this season’s EBA Peewee Select Championship Tournament is working under the double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from the tourney once they have lost two playoff elimination games. With the loss, the TP Major Peewees playoff journey at the tourney came to an end.
The TP Major Peewees Selects opened their playoff quest on Friday evening with a dominating 22-3 victory over the Etobicoke Rangers at Ourland Park.
Late on Saturday morning, the TP Majors defeated the TP Minor Peewee Selects 14-2 at Carmen Bush Park to earn their second victory.
With the wind in their sails, the TP Major Peewee Selects momentum grinded to abrupt halt as Mother Nature intervened with a full force gale of rain and lightning on Saturday afternoon. The bad weather pushed the playoff tournament schedule backwards and forced TP to wait until Sunday morning before resuming play.
On Sunday morning, the TP Majors defeated the York (Green) Riverdogs 8-4 at Pelmo Park to win their third playoff game and punch a ticket into the tourney’s semi-final round.
In a tough early afternoon affair, the TP Major Peewee Selects suffered their first playoff loss when they fell to the Annette A’s in a semi-final game at Millwood Park.
Then the A’s took down TP 10-3 in a late afternoon semi-final game to knock them out of the tournament.
The TP Major Peewee Selects had a fun and successful season of baseball where they finished the 2016 EBA Select Loop campaign with a stellar 11-1 regular season record.
In addition, the TP Major Peewee Selects had a great time competing at the BMBI Tournament back in May and the Mississauga Majors Tournament in June.
The TP Baseball Committee wishes to thank Major Peewee Select Head Coach Bill Evans; Assistant Coaches Mike Pett, Ali Alzaidi and Darin Luscher for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Major Peewee Selects through the highs and lows of a fun and productive 2016 season.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the Major Peewee Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism on and off the diamond at the tournament and throughout the long season.
