Beneath a tranquil ceiling of warm summer skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Selects defeated the Annette (Major) A’s 19-3 in 5 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2 to win their twelfth game and finish the 2016 regular season undefeated.

It was a busy Sunday for the team as the TP Mosquito Selects played a doubleheader to wrap up their regular season. Prior to their final game this evening at Christie Pits, TP had defeated York 4-3 in a seven inning affair earlier this afternoon at Smythe Park to win their eleventh game.

Cassius (5) delivers a two out 2 RBI single in the second inning. In three at bats, Cassius went 2 for 2 [two singles, sacrifice hit] to ignite the TP offensive thrust with a run scored and 4 RBI's.

Upon their arrival back onto home turf, TP starter Cooper (2) struck out one in the top of the first to keep the A’s off the scoring ledger.

In the bottom of the first, TP staked themselves to an early 2-0 lead. Following a two out single, Vince (19) stole second to get into scoring position. Solly (27) followed with a RBI single to bring Vince home with the opening run of the game.

Subsequently, with a runner at third, Theo (17) stroked a RBI single to plate Solly.

Annette starter Xander (23) would strike out two in the first to subdue the TP insurgency.

Despite loading the bases in the top of the second, Annette would come away empty handed.

TP would tally three in the bottom of the second to widen their lead to 5-0. With two outs, Cooper delivered a shot to deep centre field that he hustled around the bases to make it into an inside the park home run. In a dramatic play at the plate, Cooper just eluded the lunging tag attempt of A’s catcher Brayden (21) to slide home safely.

After a walk to Ezra (14), Jayden (30) would be hit by pitch to put two aboard. Cassius (5) followed with a 2 RBI single to bring Ezra and Jayden home.

The Annette offense stirred to life in the top of the third as they scored a run to trim the deficit to four. After a lead off single, Max (7) would steal two bases to advance to third. With two outs, Stefan (15) delivered a RBI single to bring Max home with the Athletics first run.

TP reliever Solly would strike out a pair in the third to vanquish the Annette rally.

In the bottom of the third, TP would explode for five runs to stretch their advantage to 10-1. Following a lead off walk by Charlie (7), Noah (23) delivered a RBI double to bring him home to roost.

After stroking a single, Vince stole second to put two runners into scoring position. At this juncture, the A’s uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Vince to move to third and Noah to come home to crow. Solly followed with a run scoring sacrifice hit that plated Vince.

With one out, Theo singled and Jordan (10) garnered a walk to put two ducks on the pond. Subsequently, with two outs, Cooper would deliver a RBI single to bring Theo home. An error on the play allowed Jordan to come homeward.

The Athletics would claw back with a run in the top of the fourth. After a lead off walk, Jonny (14) would steal two bases to reach third. Adam (17) followed with a RBI single to bring Jonny home.

The TP offensive express kept rolling along in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four to increase their lead to 14-2. After a lead off walk, Ezra swiped a pair to reach third. Cassius followed with a RBI single to bring Ezra home.

With one out, Charlie and Noah would stroke back to back singles to load the bases. Vince followed with a RBI single that allowed Cassius to come home.

Solly would step into the batter’s box and deliver a 2 RBI single to bring Charlie and Noah home.

In the top of the fifth, TP reliever Jordan (10) would induce a pop up and two groundouts to set down the A’s in 1-2-3 fashion.

TP would tack on five insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 19-2 lead. After Theo led off the frame with a single and stolen base, Jordan stroked a RBI single to bring him home.

Tavaris (55) followed with a RBI double that allowed Jordan to come home and the do the Hippy Hippy Shake. Then Cooper delivered a RBI single to plate Tavaris.

Following a pair of one out walks by Ezra and Jayden to put aboard, Cassius delivered a run scoring sacrifice hit to bring home Ezra.

With two outs, Charlie and Noah drew respective walks to load the bases. Vince followed with RBI walk to bring in Jayden.

Refusing to surrender to their fate, Annette gamely battled back with a run in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Andrew (12) drew a RBI walk to plate Stefan (15).

However, TP reliever Charlie (7) would eventually find the groove to strike out two A’s and induce a pop up to first base to bring the curtain down upon the proceedings.

With the end of the EBA regular season, the TP Mosquito Selects [12-0-1] will commence their quest for playoff glory on Friday (August 19) evening at the 2016 EBA Mosquito Select Championship Tournament in Etobicoke.
