Under a canopy of hot and humid skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Selects won their two scheduled round robin playoff games on Saturday at Ravina Gardens to punch a ticket into the semi-final round of the 2016 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Mosquito Select Championship Tournament.

Here are the highlights:

  • In a four inning affair this morning, TP defeated York 18-0 this morning behind the solid pitching of TP starter Solly (27), who threw 3.2 innings of shutout baseball before Ezra (14) closed it out on six pitches.

  • TP defeated the Annette (Major) A’s 16-1 in a four inning proceeding this afternoon behind strong pitching efforts from Theo (17) and Jordan (10) on the mound.

  • All TP players have been hitting the cover off of the ball and the team hopes to continue this trend as the semi-final matches begin tomorrow (Sunday, August 21) morning.

In addition to a 20-7 victory over the Martingrove White Sox on Friday evening, the TP Mosquito Selects remain undefeated at the tourney with a stellar 3-0 record.

Each team participating in this season’s EBA Mosquito Select Championship Tournament is working under the double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from the tourney once they have lost two playoff elimination games.

At the conclusion of play on Saturday, Bloordale Green, Bloordale Gold, Royal York (Girl) Cardinals, and the Martingrove White Sox were all eliminated from further tournament play.

Along with TP [3-0], the Annette Majors [2-1], Annette Minors [2-1] and the Royal York Cardinals [2-1] continue their journey at the championship tourney.

The TP Mosquito Selects journey at the EBA Select tourney continues tomorrow (Sunday, August 21) morning at Ravina Gardens Diamond 1 when they will face the Annette (Minor) A’s in a 9:00 a.m. semi-final game.
