IN A TIGHT CONTEST, THE SOX PREVAIL OVER THE M’s IN A NAIL BITER AT DOVERCOURT PARK
Under a cellophane layer of warm summer skies, the White Sox prevailed 6-4 over the Mariners in four innings of Mosquito Division round robin tournament play this evening at Dovercourt Park.
With the proceeding deadlocked 4-4, the White Sox would score a pair in the top of the fourth to take the lead. With two outs and the bases loaded, Callum (12) and Sam (7) would subsequently come home to roost on RBI walks by Joaquin (11) and Ethan (14)
The Mariners would threaten to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth by getting two base runners aboard. However, the White Sox would strike out three to vanquish the rally bid and seal the deal on the victory.
Here are some additional highlights:
- The White Sox would jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After leading off the frame with a walk and two stolen bases, Tavaris (5) would steal home.
- In the bottom of the first, the Mariners answered with a run to tie the game. Following a lead off single and a pair of stolen bases to lead off the inning, Ezra (14) would steal home.
- With 1-2-3 finesse, Mariners reliever Sam (2) would strike out three in the top of the second to keep the White Sox off the scoresheet and in the hamper.
- The White Sox would strike out two in the bottom of the second to keep them off the scoring ledger and moored to the dock.
- In the top of the third, the White Sox would score three to take a 4-1 lead. Christian (3), Tavaris and Anthony (9) would come home to roost.
- However, the Mariners would battle back with three in the bottom of the third to deadlock the game 4-4. Ernesto (7), Kai (5) and Rennick (9) would score.
