TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PREVAIL OVER THE WHITE SOX AT LLOYD McCONNIE MEMORIAL FIELDS TO EARN THEIR SECOND EBA SELECT VICTORY OF THE SEASON

Beneath a blanket of hot and humid skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Mosquito Selects defeated the Martingrove (2) White Sox 11-6 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this afternoon at Lloyd McConnie Memorial Fields.

Here is a recap of the proceedings courtesy of Debbie Childerhose,

  • It was a humdinger of a game on a hot Sunday afternoon with TP prevailing 11-6 over Martingrove 2.
  • Unquestionably, it was a beautiful day for baseball and there was a lovely tree at Martingrove Park providing shade to all the fans in attendance.
  • The Martingrove 2 White Sox are a great team with some great fan support.
  • The highlight of the game took place in the top of the first when both Daniel (7) and Cassius (5) delivered respective doubles to give TP a solid 4-0 lead. Elliot (34), Noah (3), Eric (6), Sam (2) and Simon (10) chipped in with key singles. Taking an early lead helped TP’s confidence, as well as the songs and chants coming from the dugout.
  • TP tallied three more runs in the second, with  Joshua (20) and Simon (10) contributing key singles.
  • In the top of the third, TP exercised discipline at the dish to garner some walks to put runners on base. These base runners were subsequently cashed in on a stellar double by Sam and a single by Eitan (19). When the dust had settled, TP had added another four runs to their total.
  • In the final two frames, the White Sox pitching and fielding found their rhythm as they shut down the TP offence with more strikeouts and pop flies being caught.
  • TP starter Eitan (19) combined with relievers Simon (10), Noah (3), Elliot (34), and Cassius (5) to stymie the potent Martingrove batting order. Every TP pitcher delivered their fair share of strikes during their stint on the mound.
  • Kudos to TP reliever Elliot, who only needed a meagre seven pitches to retire the White Sox during his one inning of work. Innings simply don’t get much more efficient!
  • TP also had some solid fielding during the proceeding, with the defence rising to the occasion to take some hits away from some really good Martingrove batters.
  • The TP Major Mosquito Selects (2-3) return to the friendly confines of Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Sunday, June 18 to play host to the York Gold in a Father’s Day game at 6:00 p.m.
