UNLEASHING A TWENTY-SIX HIT BARRAGE, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS BURY THE WOLVERINES AT CHRISTIE PITS TO WIN THEIR FIRST EBA SELECT GAME OF THE SEASON

Over the course of three stellar innings, TP Minor Mosquito Select starter Sam (2) limited Weston to only one run and one hit, while striking out seven, to earn the win in TP’s 24-5 EBA Select victory over the Wolverines at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Liam (17) eludes the tag attempt of Weston catcher Dimitri (11) to score TP’s final run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Liam sparked the TP attack in the leadoff spot by going 4 for 4 [single, two doubles, triple] at the plate with three runs scored and 5 RBI’s.

Beneath a ceiling of hot and hazy skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Mosquito Selects defeated the Weston Wolverines 24-5 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was an entertaining affair that was contested by two talented teams. In the end, TP reigned supreme by utilizing a combination of solid pitching and offensive fireworks. Two TP pitchers combined to limit Weston to only three hits and five runs, while striking out ten over the duration of four frames. Meanwhile, the TP batting order unfurled a twenty-six hit assault to bury its opponent.

In the top of the first, the Wolverines would threaten after Josh (27) walked and Wade (13) reached base on an error. However, TP starter Sam (2) would strike out three to leave them stranded.

TP would take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Following a pair of two out singles by Jordan (1) and Sam that put two swans on the lake, Milo  (21) followed with a RBI single that brought Jordan home with the first run of the game.

Emmett (19) delivers a thrilling two run inside the park home run in the second inning.

Weston starter Ryan (20) would strike out one in the first to quell the TP rebellion. Ryan also received some help from the Wolverines defence when they erased two TP baserunners attempting to steal second.

The Wolverines would reply with a run in the top of the second to deadlock the game 1-1. After Ethan (32) was hit by pitch to open the frame, David (5) delivered him home with a RBI double.

With ice in his veins, TP starter Sam would strike out two in the second to subdue the Weston uprising.

With two outs, TP would parlay a six hit attack into seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to retake the lead 8-1. After reaching base on a fielder’s choice, Nikolas (72) would steal second. Tommy (27) would follow with a clutch RBI single to bring Nikolas home with the go ahead run.

After Desmond (3) singled to put two aboard, Rennick (4) hit a chopper back to the mound. However, the Weston defence would commit a faux pas on the play that allowed Rennick to reach first safely and both Tommy and Desmond to come homeward bound.

Jordan (1) delivers a 2 RBI double in the third frame. In four at bats, Jordan went 4 for 4 [two singles, triple, double] at the dish with two runs scored and 2 RBI’s.

Following a single by KJ (5) that put two aboard, Liam (17) delivered a two RBI double that brought Rennick and KJ home to do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.

With one aboard, Emmett (19) would slash a liner down the first baseline that just landed fair. With Liam scoring ahead of him, Emmett hustled around the bases like a jaguar and eluded the tag attempt of Weston catcher Dimitri (11) to score a dramatic two run inside the park home run.

TP starter Sam would strike out three in the top of third to keep the Wolverines off the scoreboard and in the wildlife preserve.

In the bottom of the third, TP would send a conga line procession of sixteen batters to the plate to dole out an eight hit barrage. After the dust had settled, TP had tallied ten runs to widen their lead to 18-1.

Following a leadoff walk by Markus (29) and a double by Marshall (20), Archie (9) drew a walk to load the bases. Nikolas would follow with a two RBI single that brought Markus and Marshall home to roost.

After a one out walk by Desmond reloaded the bases, Rennick delivered a two RBI single to plate Archie and Nikolas.

In three at bats, Nikolas (72) went 2 for 3 [fielder’s choice, two singles] with three runs scored and 2 RBI’s.

With two outs and two ducks on the pond, Liam stroked a RBI double to bring Desmond home to do the watusi.

Following a walk to Emmett that juiced the bases to the gills, Jordan delivered a two RBI double that brought Rennick and Liam home to do the disco duck.

With two aboard, Sam followed with a two RBI double that allowed Emmett and Jordan to come home and perform the jitterbug.

Liam followed with a RBI single that brought Sam home to do the rumba.

Refusing to quit, the Weston gamely clawed back with four in the top of the fourth to trim the margin to 18-5. Following a leadoff single by Dimitri and a walk by Josh that put two mallards on the inlet, Wade (13) stroked a RBI single to plate Dimitri.

In grand theft fashion, Josh would make a brazen steal of home to score a run for the Wolverines.

Rennick (4) went 2 for 3 [two singles] at the plate with three runs scored and 3 RBI’s.

After Ethan reached base on a dropped third strike, Alex (6) drew a one out walk to load the bases. Ryan would draw a two out RBI walk to bring home Wade. A subsequent wild pitch would allow Ethan to come home to do the twist.

Shaken, but not stirred, TP reliever Marshall (20) would strike out three in the fourth to extinguish the Weston insurgency.

TP would add six insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth to salt the game away. Following back to back one out singles by Nikolas and Tommy that put two aboard, Desmond stroked a RBI single to plate Nikolas. Rennick and KJ would follow with respective RBI singles to bring Tommy and Desmond home.

With two aboard, Liam launched a two RBI triple to bring Rennick and KJ home to do the hully gully.

Emmett would deliver a sacrifice hit to bring Liam home.

Weston reliever Andrew (11) would chalk up a pair of pop outs and a strikeout to subdue the TP insurrection in the fourth and bring the curtain down on the proceedings.

The TP Minor Mosquito Selects (1-4) hit the road for their next EBA Select game on Sunday, June 18, when they journey to Lloyd McConnie Memorial Fields to play against Martingrove 2 at 6:00 p.m.
