UNLEASHING A TWENTY-SEVEN HIT AERIAL FUSILLADE, THE BOMBERS TAKE DOWN TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS
Beneath a blanket of warm and hazy skies, the Bloordale Gold Bombers defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Rookie Ball Selects 22-4 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.The proceeding was a fun and spirited affair that was contested by two talented squads. In the end, it was not TP’s day at the dish as the Bombers rode the wave of a twenty-seven hit barrage to cruise to a convincing victory.
In the top of the first, the Gold would jump out of the gates and stake themselves to an early 5-0 lead. Following a leadoff single by Max (2), Griffin (33) would deliver a one out RBI double to bring Max home with Bloordale’s first run of the game.
After Evan (19) and Zachary (20) stroked back to back singles to load the bases, Sebastian (13) delivered a two out two RBI single to bring Griffin and Evan home.
Liam (99) and Sebastian (77) would follow with respective RBI singles to plate Zachary and Sebastian (13).
After TP went down quietly in the bottom half of the first, the Bombers would launch a six hit assault in the top of the second and explode for seven runs to widen their lead to 12-0. Following a pair of singles by Ayden (8) and Aaron (9) that put two ducks on the pond to lead off the frame, Max stroked a one out RBI single to bring Ayden home to crow.
Following a single by Connor (1) that loaded the bases, Griffin delivered a clutch two RBI double that allowed Aaron and Max to come homeward bound. With two outs and a pair of runners on base, Zachary would hit a RBI single to plate Griffin.
With a pair of Bombers on base, Sam (7) would crush a three run home run blast to cap off a productive inning for the Gold.
The TP defence would make a pretty 5-2 putout during the inning. With one out and runners at third and second, Evan would hit a sharp grounder down the third baseline. As Connor bolted homeward from third, TP third baseman Ben (8) vacuumed up the ball in Kirby fashion and made a laser throw home to catcher Zach (19), who tagged out a sliding Connor to thwart his bid to score and ring up the second out.Refusing to surrender, TP battled back with two in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to ten. After Will (6) stroked a one out single, Henri (23) delivered a grace under pressure two out RBI double to bring him home with TP’s first run of the game. Jamie (20) followed with a RBI single that allowed Henri to come home to roost.
Bloordale would answer back with three in the top of the third to stretch their advantage to 15-2. After Sebastian (13) singled to lead off the frame, Liam doubled to put two mallards on the lake. Sebastian (77) followed with a two RBI double to bring Sebastian (13) and Liam home to do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.
With a runner at second, Andrew (17) followed with a RBI single to plate Sebastian (77).
The Gold defence would stymie the TP offensive momentum in the bottom of the third by retiring TPon three groundouts to keep them off the scoring ledger.
In the top of the fourth, the Bombers would uncork a nine hit barrage and tally seven insurance runs to increase their lead to 22-2. After Max, Connor and Griffin led off the inning with respective singles to load the bases, Evan stroked a RBI single to bring Max home. With the bases still juiced to the max, Zachary followed with a two RBI single to plate Connor and Griffin.
With two runners on base, Sam delivered a RBI double that allowed Evan to come homeward. Still, with two aboard, Sebastian (13) powered a two RBI double to deliver Zachary and Sam home to do the watusi.
Following a single by Liam that put two aboard, Sebastian (77) stroked a RBI single to plate Sebastian (13).
TP would score a pair in bottom of the fourth to close the margin to 22-4. After Jamie and Zach reached base on pair of singles with two outs, Ben would deliver a single. On the play, the Bloordale defence would commit a major faux pas that allowed Ben to advance to third and both Jamie and Zach to blaze homeward with a pair of runs.
The TP Minor Rookie Ball Selects (2-7) hit the road for their next EBA Select game on Wednesday, July 18 when they travel to Martingrove Gardens to battle the Martingrove White Sox at 6:30 p.m.
