FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS, THE CARDINALS TAKE DOWN TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Kieran (18) delivers a two RBI double for TP in the second inning. In three at bats, Kieran went 2 for 3 [single, double] at the dish to spark the TP attack against the Royal York Cardinals with two runs scored and three RBI’s.

Beneath a ceiling of warm midsummer skies, the Royal York Cardinals defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects 17-9 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The Cardinals sent fifteen batters to the plate in the top of the first to stake themselves to an early 11-0 lead. Following a leadoff double by Nate (33) and a walk by Joe (19) that put two aboard, Ben (7) stroked a two RBI single to bring them home with the opening runs of the game.

After Nikola (10) and Jeremy (13) drew a pair of walks to load the bases, Colin (17) delivered a one out RBI single to plate Ben. With the bases still juiced to the gills, Daniel (12) followed with a groundout to first that allowed Nikola to come home to roost.

With two outs and two aboard, Ben (16) would hit a ball towards third. However, the TP defence would commit an error on the play that allowed Ben to reach first safely and both Jeremy and Colin to motor home with a pair of runs.

Following a walk to Matthew (49) that put two aboard, James (22) stroked a RBI single to bring Ben (16) home.

With a pair of Cardinals on the birdbath, Nate would reach base on another TP error. The faux pas allowed Matthew and James to scoot homeward.

After a walk to Joe that put two ducks on the pond, Ben (7) delivered a two RBI triple to bring Nate and James home to chirp.

TP starter Cooper (2) would chalk up a popup, groundout and a strikeout in the first frame to quell the Royal York insurgency.

In the bottom of the first, TP would reply with three to trim the deficit to eight. After a leadoff walk by Charlie (7), Solly (27) singled to put two mallards on the lake. Kieran (18) followed with a one out RBI single to bring Charlie home with TP’s first run of the game.

With two aboard, Liam would hit into a 4-3 groundout that brought Solly homeward. Subsequently, with two outs, Kieran would steal home with another run.

Royal York starter Ben (7) would ring up a popup and a pair of groundouts in the first to subdue the TP rebellion.

The Cardinals would add a pair in the top of the second to widen their lead to 13-3. With one out and a runner on base, Colin would launch a majestic two run home run blast over the left field fence.

TP reliever Liam (26) would tally a pair of groundouts and a popup in the second to douse the Royal York mutiny.

Refusing to surrender, TP stormed back with five in the bottom of the second to close the margin to 13-8. Following consecutive walks to Eli (4), Charlie and Solly that loaded the bases, Jordan (10) drew a one out RBI walk to plate Eli.

With the bases still juiced to overflowing, Kieran delivered a two RBI double that moved Jordan to third and brought Charlie and Solly home to do the jitterbug.

With two aboard, Liam stroked a two RBI single to bring Jordan and Kieran home.

Royal York reliever Matthew (49) would strike out three in the second to extinguish the TP uprising.

In the top of the third, the Cardinals would answer with two to increase their advantage to 15-8. With one out and a runner at third, Nate would hit into a 4-3 groundout that delivered James home.

After garnering a two out walk and stealing two bases, Joe would come home on a TP faux pas.

TP reliever Liam would ring up a popup, groundout and a K in the third to quell the Royal York insurrection.

Redbirds reliever Matthew would chalk up three groundouts in the bottom of the third to keep TP off the scoring ledger.

The Cards would add two insurance runs in the top of the fourth to widen their lead to 17-8. With no outs and a runner on third, Jeremy delivered a RBI single to centre field to bring Graeme (73) home.

On the play, Jeremy made a brazen bid to stretch his single into a double. However, the TP defence thwarted his quest when centre fielder Cooper retrieved the ball and made a relay throw to shortstop Jordan to catch Jeremy in a rundown between second and first. Jordan would zero in on his prey and make a throw to first baseman Kieran, who tagged out Jeremy on the pretty 8-6-3 putout.

Subsequently, with one out and two aboard, Ben (16) would hit into a fielder’s choice that brought Colin home with a run.

TP would score a run in the bottom of the fourth to close the margin to 17-9. Following a leadoff double and stolen base by Solly, Jordan would hit into a 4-3 groundout to deliver him home.
